Where to stay for one night?

I am heading to WDW next week, staying at Shades of Green. My original plans have me checking in on Sunday 5/14 and checking out Saturday 5/20. However I've decided I want to go down a day early to have a day to myself before I meet my parents for the rest of the week (it's okay, I'm 37.)

I called CRO and there is NOTHING available with my AP discount for Saturday night except a pool view room at AKL for $269. I hate to pay that when I won't arrive at WDW until probably 9 pm.

I am still hoping to add the extra night to my SoG reservation but their reservations people only work M-F. So it looks like I might need to stay off-site, which I am uncomfortable with, as a woman traveling alone.

Any tips? Or am I stuck going down on Sunday?

Was there anything available on-site at rack-rate?

I would say either pay this or stay off-site.
I understand your concern, but somewhere like the Marriott Village at Lake Buena Vista would make most people feel pretty comfortable.

Try the Grosvenor Resort - it's right next to Downtown Disney. I've stayed there MANY times by myself, and always felt very safe and able to relax! Bus transportation to the parks is provided, although not as efficient as the Disney buses. The resort has two great pools, and is within easy walking distance of lots of fun stuff to do.

Enjoy your solo day/night!

Thanks - I was offered a room at AS Movies for $112, but I am having trouble paying that much for a value! I know, I'm spoiled. Today is the last day to cancel reservations for Saturday I think (a week out??) so maybe if I call back I'll be lucky and get a few more options.

If not I will try the DTD hotels, I forgot about those!

Well I was dumb. I should've taken the ASM room. Because I called back and there is NOTHING at rack rate except a VIP suite at Coronado and the Honeymoon Suite at WL, and that same pool view room at AKL.

I'm going to wait for Monday and call Shades of Green, if they can't fit me in I know they can give me an overflow rate at one of the DTD hotels that is better than I can get elsewhere. If that doesn't work I'll be back for more advice. :)

ETA that there may very well be rooms at the higher priced Deluxes but when I hesitated at $269 for AKL the CMs didn't offer the higher priced rooms.

Hmm.. interesting.

Nicole, priceline has recently been giving out All Star rooms at Music and Sports for $36 (plus tax and fee, so $48) a night. However, it looks like your Saturday isn't one of the nights. If anything, you might want to try a Resort category in the WDW vicinty with a cheap-low bid and see what happens. I doubt you'd be unhappy with say the Omni, Gaylord Palm, Swan, or Dolphin for a cheaper than value-resort price.

Anyways, here's the link about the All Star priceline bidding...

And here's a good link for using priceline for WDW in general:

www.biddingfortravel.com

ETA: Hilton WDW is going for $139 that night, and it'd get you into any EMH that day. If you really don't want to go offsite.

Have you thought about the Swan or Dolphin? They have special WDWMagic, MouseSavers, and AllEarsNet rates, all of which are cheaper than the AKL rate you were offered. It would be much better than the value resort and not too much more. Its under $200.

IMHO I would not stay at one of the DTD area hotels. A couple years back we were in a bind, the Polynesian could not give us a room til the second day of our trip so we needed to stay somewhere for just one night. We booked a room at one of the DTD hotels for just one night, and we had called in the reservation over 3 months from our trip date. We got there and went to check in -- they didnt have a room for us!!!!! They gave us a room they dont ever give out b/c it was falling apart (literally) so we would have someplace to sleep. It was really bad, really really bad. And there was not enough parking in the lot, we had to park on the grass. It was by far our worst hotel experience ever and we have stayed at some really crappy places all over but this was just terrible. We were afraid to take a shower!

Hope everything works out for you! We always said if we ever get in a bind like that again, we would find a different Disney resort to stay at!

Well, in case anyone cares, I thought I'd let you know that via the WDW website today I was able to get the All-Star Music for $112. So persistence pays off!!

We have stayed off site under similar late arrival circumstances. We like the LaQuinta in Kissimee, its calles Laquinta main gate I think. It's about 1 mile off I-4 on 536. Nice place and reasonable and convenient to Goto WDW next morning.

Wonderful! Have a great time. I've stayed at the ASM in the Jazz section....at least I think it was the Jazz section. It was right by one of pools, but a long hike to the food court.
