Where to buy MagicBand?

We are planning our trip to WDW and would like to get a MagicBand (just MagicBand, not MagicBand+), at least for our daughter. Official disneyworld.disney.go.com site currently has only 17 designs, none of which is exciting enough for her. I see hundreds of designs on the aftermarket, but so far I am hesitant to buy there.

Was MagicBand selection on Disney's own webstore always so limited?

The aftermarket ones are just wrapped. The central puck is the brain of the device and store the identity string and is removable. Thats the only component you need to worry about as they cannot be transferred from account to account once activated.

Yes the ones on the WDW site have always been limited.
First it was limited to just some basic colors.
Now its limited based on design and the fact that some designs are more popular which means they have a hard time keeping them all in stock.
If you want to pay more money for a specific design that's not available at the discounted rate you can check out ShopDisney or buy one on property.
Personally I don't trust 3rd party sellers as they could have already been activated and linked to someone else's account.

We’re going to buy new ones at Disney Springs on our first day. We’ll bring our old ones since they’re already linked to our MDE acct. They’re over 2 years old and although they work fine for entry, they won’t pick up our pictures on some of the rides. The ones on Shop Disney and MDE are kinda lame. Like the OP reported there were just 17 designs on Shop Disney, and less than that on MDE. Like @Queen of the WDW Scene said, I’d NEVER buy 3rd party.
