Where should I stay?

I think it depends which parks you'll be spending most time in. If you'll be mainly going to Magic Kingdom, then Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian (if money really is no object!) are all on the monorail line straight to MK. Wilderness Lodge is a little further out than them, but you can get the boat to MK.
If you'll be at Epcot & Hollywood Studios more, then the likes of Yacht Club, Beach Club & Boardwalk would be ideal, as they're in walking distance to both parks. If you're not too bothered about theming, then Swan and Dolphin are both good options as they're walkable to the parks, as well as having a boat to both parks.
Animal Kingdom Lodge is obviously closest to Animal Kingdom park, but may be worth considering, just for the experience no matter how much time you want to spend at AK. Just be sure to book a savannah room, so you can watch the animals from your room
If you'll be spending lots of time at Downtown Disney, then Saratoga Springs is walkable, as well as having a boat across to DTD too. I think the same can be said for Port Orleans French Quarter (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong- not totally certain on that!). Old Key West might also be a nice option for you.
All in all, it depends where you want to be location-wise and also, what kind of theming you like. If money really is no object, then skip the value resorts and look at moderates upwards.

I've only stayed onsite once, and that was at the Polynesian. If you don't care about the cost, it's a GREAT place to stay. I loved the convenience of the monorail to Magic Kingdom.
As others have said, it really depends on your plans. Also, some resorts have bigger room sizes to accommodate more people, so it depends on the number of people in your group.

Do you have kids? What are the ages? How long will you stay? Do you plan on doing any additional activities?
If cost is no object, then it's the Poly for me. I've stayed at the Poly, Boardwalk, Contemporary, and Pop Movies...it's the Poly for me.

Some of my favorite resorts are Polynesian, Contemporary/Bay Lake Tower, Beach Club, and Wilderness Lodge.

You need to sit down and study..Where have you stayed in the past.?. What resorts have you narrowed it down too..?..Everyone has their personal favourites.

We love the monorail resorts, transportation can't be beat. So many options other than buses. We do the Poly, 3 adults, all the time. Switching resorts this year to Wilderness Lodge Villas. (Still close to everything) If you tend to be at Epcot more than the other parks, Id have to agree with other posters, stay at one of the Boardwalk area resorts. A short walk or boat ride to the park, or a longer walk or boat ride to DHS. I guess it depends where you intend to spend most of your time. Another thought about the Boardwalk resorts, is you have Jelly Rolls right there as well as the ESPN Club.

I've stayed at the GF, Boardwalk (plus DVC), Beach Club (plus DVC), Yacht Club, Contemporary (only stayed at DVC part), Animal Kingdom Lodge (plus Jambo DVC), Saratoga Springs, and Port Orleans Riverside. As my signature below says, I am in love with the GF. I usually try to stay there, and if I can't, I use my backup DVC points to get my Disney fill for the year...oh who am I getting, my Disney fill for a few months.

It really depends on whether there are kids, what park you want to spend the most time at, if transportation (monorails, boats, buses, etc) is very important, and most of all... your own personal tastes.
I'll try to split this up into categories.
KID FRIENDLY
- All resorts are kid friendly, but I'd say that the Contemporary isn't themed towards children.
TRANSPORTATION
Magic Kingdom- The Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and Polynesian have the best options to get to the MK (monorail, boats, buses). The Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness are good, too, but are limited to just boats and buses.

*This is all based on cost not being an issue. I didn't mention all the resorts (none of the value), so keep that in mind. And there are also different levels to these resorts (preferred, water view, MK view, etc).

I prefer Coronado Springs, if Im going to worry about spending money where I sleep. Also if I plan on using the amenities the hotels has besides the pool, spa, restaurants, ect... Coronado a moderate with a deluxe feel imo. If Im just using the hotel to sleep, then any of the other moderate or value resorts are good...you are just laying your head down and the scenery at the value seems more "Disney." This way you dont break bank on a hotel and can use the money else where...but then again it depends on your taste and preferences.

Everyone has their favorites but if you could give some info on your family that might help with suggestions. Are you park commandos? Want a pool/resort day? Prefer a resort on the monorail line? Close to which park?
