When Disney Club ends...

Does anyone know what Disney will replace the Disney Club with? I was wondering if so many of us get discounts (like on rooms) with either the AP or DC, what will happen when the DC ends. I was told by Disney the other day that if you have the DC already, you can renew it until the end of the year, but you can't buy a new membership. Well so many people use it or their AP for deep room discounts. Is Disney going to be offering something in it's place for discounts? How do the "regular" visitors save money now? I know they offer discount codes here and there, but what will their "staple" discounts be and how will they offer them? Just something to ponder...

The Disney Club is not getting a replacement similar to what it is now. It will be replaced with the Disney Visa card that will be a points system similar to a frequent flyer mile card. You also can no longer renew or get a new membership.

So basically you are both saying that you have to spend money on a Disney endorsed credit card in order to receive any discounted benefits? :brick: Not happy to hear this. I knew about the Disney CC, but was just figuring it was another way for Disney to generate some $$$...didn't figure it would be this way for discounts too. I suppose you have to spend even more for any perks now....:(

Thanks for the responses...although not what I was hoping for.

Renewal for the DC ended on Dec 12th. (good till 12/03). The Disney Visa will be put in place in March. You will garner points (like skymiles) every time you use it. You will get a special interest rate for six monthe if you use it to book your trip. You also get discounts in the Disney store, etc. Nowhere near as good as the DC. By the way no interest rate was published...only said it was "competative".

Well instead of Discounts now, you can earn free things. If you charge a lot of things, you can end up getting free hotel stays, admission tickets, and other things. It can really work out well for some people who use their CC's a lot.

yeah, it shouldn't be too bad, if you are a person who uses a CC responsibly. I plan on putting as much as possible on that card to earn the points. For example..buying my groceries, gasoline, etc. daily bills and then just pay it off every month. I have those expenses already so I'll put it towards my disney expenses. This however would not work well for someone unable to earmark that money as already being spent... we pay off our CC's every month so this way I will earn perks for our WDW trips!

not as good as the old MKC or the current DC but better than nothing I suppose.

Ok, believe it or not...not a CC user here. I have no CC debt and don't want any. I do have a CC, just use it only in emergencies. I think I must be the only one out there that still does this. Cash and carry is my policy...so I hate to hear this none the less. However, I agree that if you use it for daily bills and earmark the money, it could work to your benefit. Is Disney going to give any discounts if you book the trip using the card? Just wondering. I pay the trip before I go anyway...so why not get perks...that is for sure! :D

Where did you find out about earning free stays etc.? I haven't seen anything on the perks yet. I would love to have one for the business. Do you think they will offer a business card?

p.s. Is the decision final for the AKL?

from the DC website:

For the first time in history, there is a credit card that will offer Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on your Disney's Visa® Card purchases. Disney's Visa® Credit Card from Bank One is coming March 4 and Disney is reserving a special application website and phone number just for you.

If you apply by visiting www.disneysecret.com or by calling (888) 688-4868 between March 4 and March 24, and provide secret passcode 680G12, your card will reflect that you're one of the very first with the words Cardmember since "Day 1" embossed right on the front! Plus, you'll receive an exclusive "Day 1" commemorative pin, shown above, after you've made your first purchase with your new card.

Disney's Visa Card will also offer many other magical benefits to all Cardmembers. You can earn Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on card purchases, and your reward dollars can be redeemed for practically any Disney purchase - from merchandise at Disney Store, DisneyStore.com, Disney catalog Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® -- including Theme Parks, and Disney Cruise Line®. And if you or your travel agent book a cruise package or ticket-inclusive Disney vacation package through Disney Cruise Line® or the Walt Disney Travel Company using your Disney's Visa Card, you'll receive a special promotional interest rate for six months.

All this in a card with no annual fee.

I read somewhere that the rewards MAY BE these things. Nothing is definate yet, but it does seem like those are the most likely options they will have.

And Yes, AKL is booked. We will be staying there in August.

I hope that we can earn free stays and tickets. That would be great! I'm happy that you finally decided where you are staying. I know it was a real toss up there for a while. You're going to love the AKL.

I just renewed my Disney Club Card today. 2/13/03 So if you have a card and it's going to expire this year, they will give a pro-rated rate like they did for me!:sohappy:

Purchasing a new Disney Club membership ended on Dec. 12th. You can still renew with a pro-rated rate. I just renewed mine today. 2-13-03

New Disney Credit Card

At the WOD last week, a CM said the Disney Club just couldn't hold its popularity because people were used to getting the club through their employer for free and he couldn't believe people would choose not to pay for a membership.

But, why pay $40 a year when they continually changed the program always for the worse. They eliminated the 10% from most stores and raised the minimum purhase to $25 bucks. I miss the Magic Kingdom Club! Those were the days.

Also, at Disney Home as of January 1st, ALL discounts at their store have been eliminated. No Disney Club, no annual passholder, no Amercian Express Card because it is no longer the official card of Disney.

The CM said that right now the new credit card will offer no park ticket discounts - not even for annual passes. Yikes! Now I am little worried because that was the best part of the whole club. Just passing on information .....

Have a Disney day!

I called and confirmed what DisneyInsider stated about a point system where you would earn free merchandise in stores and the catalog as well as using the points toward tickets and room/pkg. reservations.
