Wheelchairs (but not one of those mean threads)

Hi gang, thanks for all the previous help.

As some of you may know my family and I are going to the World in late Dec., 2006 (still have to call Kingdom Konsultants for some advice and trip planning).

However, I wanted to ask this question, about wheelchairs. My wife and I will be going along with my mom and several friends.

My mom is not totally wheelchair dependant, however she does use a cane to get around. The amount of walking that we do at WDW is over her limit.

So, its no big deal to get her a scooter or wheelchair to get around in the parks. However, at the Carribean (where we are planning on staying) everything is spread out.

Here is my question, would it be smart to get a wheelchair at CBR for use only at the CBR, get her onto the bus, get to the park, then leave that wheelchair with the gues services at the park and rent her an ECV. Then at the end of the day, bring the ECV back and pick up the same wheelchair to go back to CBR?

Is this possible? I searched the forums and didn't see anything addressing this issue.

Just looking for an idea...

Thanks so much, everyone,

Johnny

I suffer from Lyme disease and have rented scooters from SCOOTAROUND in the past. They deliver the scooter to your hotel so it is there when you arrive and they pick it up the day you leave. You can break it down to put in a rental car or it can be brough right onto the bus. It was wonderful! You can access their website at WWW.SCOOTAROUND.COM for a price quote.

My understanding is that it is cheaper to rent a scooter from an outside vendor, as Disney is much more expensive. And if you are going to rent one in the parks, it makes more sense that you have it for whole time you are there anyway.

Plan B is to use the manual chair in the parks. Most of it is flat and provided you are in not unreasonable shape they are a doddle to push all day. I have taken my mother on two trips of two weeks each and had no problems pushing her chair at the parks.
