So apart from the Universal parks, what food or shopping places are within 10 or 15 mins walk from the hotel?

What's within walking distance of Cabana bay?

Besides CityWalk? Nothing. Cabana Bay is across the street from a high school and residental area. You'll be walking quite a while before you get to a restaurant or store, and they won't be anything worthwhile.

One mile south of Cabana Bay is restaurant row on Sand Lake Road. The list of restaurants is immense. Everything from high end steakhouses, fondue, Korean BBQ, sushi, fast food, etc. While it is walkable, I would just grab an Uber/Lyft.

Very close if you have a car, but walking would take you closer to an hour just to get down there.
