What's this new REPUTATION feature?

I see you can annonomously (sp) give a thumbs U or DOWN to someone whenever they post.

What does this ultimately affect, by having a good/bad rep?

I guess it could be helpful in getting some people to conform more to the rules about posting. Also if they see their reputation falling maybe they would think twice about how they say things instead of what it is they actually are saying. This is the first time I've come across this (though others belong to boards that also use it). I'm willing to give it a try.

It's worth a try. I just hope it doesn't denegrate into groups of people singling out someone they do not like. Which could also cause other people, who stand alone, not to speak up for someone if they feel they will be "attacked" as well.

Granted, I sound paranoid. But let's hope it works out for the good :D

Well, I think this has already happened. (if its true some fine tuning is needed. )

Give it some time - the novelty factor is still there. The amount that people will use the reputation tends to die down once the novelty wears off, and that's when it really starts to work well. :)

I'm sure thats true, but the damage has already been done. I thinks its going to be up to Steve (maybe the moderators) to sort it out.

I haven't seen anybody yet with a higher or lower rating except Steve (who has 2 green bars) and Kendal (who has one grey bar). I'm really not sure if people are abusing it. I only have one positive feedback and 0 negative.

I know of one person who has a negative number and one above average.
I think, if used correctly, this could be a good thing. We need honest feedback. This system was meant to help improve our little community not tear it apart. I would hate to lose a decent member because of a personality conflict. :(

One nice feature on it is that you cannot sit there and click multiple times for the same person. The system has been designed that you must vote for others before you can come back and vote for someone you've already voted for. I think it can be a good thing and will lead to quality posting.

I believe that you have to have some added prior to being able to see anything on the UserCP. I'll add to your rep and let me know if you see anything. I'm not seeing anything on mine either.

It worked, it shows up below the "Subscribed Threads" list on the USER CP main page, along with the thread in which you got the rep.

I was gonna add to yours so you could see it for yourself, but it seems I've given too much rep around for today...

Good deal! Maybe I'll get to see it sometime! :)

I think it's a good feature, and I think that things will improve because of it. Whether people will take the time to fill out the form is another thing however.
