What's exactly being done during refurbishments?

I understand that rides' refurbishments are posted online, however I wonder if there's a way to know what is actually being done on the ride. I'm sure many short refurbs are just scheduled maintenances, but when rides are closed for months I'm sure there's more to it. Sometimes it's posted on WDWMagic but often times not. Is there another place to find this information or am I simply missing something?

(I haven't posted on the forums in forever. Hope to be getting into it more soon)

Disney do not provide any information about refurbishments other than the dates. Occasionally some information will leak out about what is being done, but more often than not, it is just things like paint, repairs, system upgrades. Nothing that makes any change to the actual show.

If the refurbishment is bigger, more information tends to leak out.

Disney is rarely going to release official info on a rufurb. You will occasionally hear something if they will be adding something significant (eg Captain Jack added to POTC), but for the most part all you will see from Disney are dates.

This site will be one of your best sources for what they are actually doing, but most of it is rather uninteresting. Repainting, repairing and replacing mechanical elements of the attractions are the most common things that they will do.
