What to see and do outside of the parks

Accidentally submitted this before I was finished..

The first day of our arrival we will not be visiting a park. We will have a car, which is a first since we usually fly. I want to explore some resorts I've never seen before, maybe even eat at a quick service place for dinner in a resort. Any ideas? Just trying to think of some places to see before going to downtown Disney that night. It's my boyfriend's first time to WDW so I want to show him the best places :)

Being used to WDW transportation, I'm only used to seeing WDW from a bus...so any tips or things to check out would be great :) I consider myself an expert on parks, but not so familiar with resorts outside of OKW.

You don't really need a car to do it but explore the resorts on the Monorail, and the Wilderness lodge the lobby will blow your socks off. Also, explore the Boardwalk and the resorts there. There are some very good restaurants in the resorts and on the boardwalk as well.

Are you staying on WDW property? If so you don't have to pay to park! Try the monorail loop of resorts and then take a boat over to WL as someone stated above. As far as quick service, I saw that the Contemporary has their QS right next to Chef Mickey's and the menu for the QS looks good. Not to mention it is near their shops and there is also a bar there overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon. You could also watch the water parade outside from the Contemporary after dinner. This is def a resort to show your BF if he has never been to Disney before. WL is beautiful and fun to walk around outside. Make sure to check out Old Faithful erupting. You could also visit Animal Kingdom Lodge and do some animal watching for free. The lodge has a large observation area and it's a cool place to visit.

If you have a car and a few hours hit the official Disney outlets and DTD!!!!!!!!!! I just did quite a bit of my Christmas shopping there!:Do_O:D BTW I saved quite a few dollars at the outlets!

If you're visiting a hotel, park at the hotel. It would be crazy to pay for parking at the TTC. It would be nuts to park there, too. Park where you're going! (TTC parking is $15/car unless you are in a WDW hotel or have an AP.) Tell the guard at the little gate that you want to go look around. You don't have to lie. It's all cool. :)

First, if you're trying to give him the tour, make sure he is the kind of person who will enjoy looking at hotel lobbies. Not everyone is, lol. I think WL is the best hotel to visit. You can see the lobby, check out the gift shop, watch the geyser go off and get something to eat.

BWI has the Boardwalk out back, with a little evening entertainment...though I think it is all better for kids, some people enjoy it. The ESPN bar is there, too.

A lot of people like to go see the lobbies of the monorail hotels, too. It just depends on your preference. :)
