What ride that previously existed, if built for the first time in the future...

So I was scrolling through threads and found this very interesting topic by @mergatroid . Think of this thread as sort of a "spin-off"... or completely stealing an idea. Whichever you like.

As I kept thinking about this topic, I was wondering.. What rides that were PREVIOUSLY open at WDW would be acceptable today based on Disney's standards? Also including an attraction that would not have that much to complain about on these forums... Usually based on the quality of the ride and it's entertainment value. For instance, if the original "Universe of Energy" ride were to open today, think about how many folks o these forums would complain about the boringness of the ride. NOT how it was so superior for ITS TIME.. but for CURRENT standards. If you disagreed with that, sorry. It was an example.

Just imagine if it had never existed in the first place, and how the typical modern tourist would think of it. Also, consider these aspects of it... If the attraction included film, or celebrity actors, they would probably be very high quality to today's standards and the use of CURRENT actors. So.. Here's my list, and it's a pretty big one!

MK -
ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter (every one of you should have seen this one coming first.)
Mickey Mouse Revue
The Timekeeper (minus "standing up" complaints)
The Legend of the Lion King

EPCOT -
Journey Into Imagination
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
Body Wars
Cranium Command
Horizons
World of Motion
Maelstrom
Kitchen Kabaret
Food Rocks (with KK quality AAs.)

AK -
Tarzan Rocks! (would be in an AC theatre now... Just sayin'!)

HS -
Hunchback of Notre Dame show
(original) Backlot Tour

The obvious ones, imho ...

1. Journey Into Imagination
2. Horizons
3. World of Motion
4. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

The less obvious ...

5. Superstar Television
6. Cranium Command

I believe ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter would get the exact same amount of complaints today as it did then and it would simply be up to Disney Management to educate the public.

I agree with most of these but I don't think Mr. Toad would go over without the nostalgia of it being there before. If they opened a new ride that had the same flat, plywood characters it would get ripped apart for being cheap. I love going on it at Disneyland but I don't think it would go over as a new ride.

The Buzz Lightyear ride has flat plywood characters (and it is cheap, imho), but people seem to like it.

Well, SOME parts of it are.. I think it depends what kind of ride it is. In that case, it's an interactive video game so you could get away with that.

I particularly would love to see Mr. Toad's Wild Ride come to WDW! When I finally got to ride it at DL 3 years ago I was so surprised at how fun it actually is! I think they should use some of the screen technology that Universal's been using for their Harry Potter attractions in there queue shows/lines.. That would be very life-like... For a cartoon dx

It is/was fun. And as I'm sure you know, the WDW was even better (because it had duel ride tracks that met in the town square).

I knew it had two separate tracks! But I'm 16, so I've never ridden it from WDW. o-o

One thing I hate about being born in this generation! XP

I think that's part of the problem. The simplicity of Mr. Toad is what makes it so iconic at Disneyland. I was sad when they took it away from WDW. We have so much space at the Magic Kingdom I can't see how it couldn't fit in there. Anyway, it probably wouldn't go over well, but I know I certainly would "get" the theme of the ride.

What is worse is while I love the ride at DL, this was one of the few cases where the MK version was clearly the better version and poof it was gone. I guess on the plus side I like the MK version of Pooh better than the DL version that bumped off Country Bear Jamboree (which a lot of DLers still wax nostalgic about). Still with all the room in MK it is ridiculous that it has less (and at times dumbed down versions) rides than DL. I like the open spaces at MK but there is plenty of room to have both.

Ironically, I believe the same goes for Country Bear Jamboree when it was at Disneyland... Though I haven't ever seen it in person there, videos on youtube showed some sort of awesome queue line and better quality AAs compared to Florida's version.. Weird.

Journey into Imagination would do wonders if it was restored to the way it was, Horizkns if they updated a few things could have had some life in it still, Spaceship Earth 94 had to go but surprised they didn't bring back the tomorrow's child ending and add more lights, it would have been much cheaper then the screens.

I agree, MK is so big they can easily have both. They can keep the open spaces while at the same time utilizing their space with more attractions.

...and while they complain via phone, mail or forums, their kids play Alien Isolation in the background
:D
