What makes the World Showcase especially cool to you?

Hi! I'm at work right now "teaching" my students are watching a video about volcanoes and there is some really cool Japanese drumming music which makes me think of the drum players in the Japan pavilion of World Showcase. That leads to my question....What makes World Showcase especially cool to you? What about it makes it really special?

I can think of 3 things.... the cultural performers, the detail put into creating the buildings, and the wine at Italy!

I think first off is that it is a permanent world's fair. We haven't had one in the USA since 1984 I think, and this is as close as I can get to one.

I also agree on the amazing themeing and shopping, attractions, and shows are all unique and creative.

IllumiNations of course brings it all together. :sohappy:

Well the Norwegian female CMs.. but, you cannot teach your students about them LOL....

I like the fact that I can visit several countries, see what their culture is like, and taste the kind of foods they eat without ever having to actually go to their country.

Quite a few things, but the coolest thing is in between countries. You get about 15 steps outside of the country, and you dont here the countries atmosphere music playing. Then a few more steps and you start hearing the next countries music.

Also, most of the time we start in Canada and work our way around to Mexico. I allways take a moment to look back across to Canada and think to myself, "self, you walked from Canada to Mexico in four hours". :D

Eating at the San Angel Inn while watching the boats from El Rio del Tiempo go by, dessert from the pastry shop in France, and watching the O Canada movie are what make the World Showcase cool to me.

The opportunity to sample countries representing many parts of the world, without breaking out a passport.

I particulatly love the architecture. It makes me want to get out there and see the real thing.

I agree, I was watching a DVD the other day about COP and the 1964 Worlds Fair in NY and I was thinking wow that looks so cool I wish they still had a World Fair's.

My top 3 would be.....
1. The People (most are so nice to talk to and to find out a little about them and their home)
2. The Food :slurp:
3. The attention to detail, a true escape!

Hello, great topic!
Epcot is my fave theme park, I have only been to Disneyworld once for 6 days but I was in Epcot for 3 of them. I love being able to experience the culture and the sights. Attention to detail is so true! Did you notice the trees in Germany? (I think that's where they were). They were quite interesting.

My favorite thing was walking through the streets of France, especially at night, it felt like I was really there.

The food is obviously amazing! Les Chefs De France was excellent and so was Le Cellier. Epcot 13, are you talking about the French pastry restaurant called Boulangerrie Patisserie? If you are, you are so right! I ate there twice, hmmm mmm. Did you try the Napoleon? I'm dreaming of it right now!

The last thing I love about it is the restaurants aren't fake knock-offs (at least in my opinion). The food actually tastes good and it's not a cheap version of what you would get over there!

O Canada, O France, and O China...well, not really.
Actually, I love...
  • Walking out of the hot noonday sun into a cool evening in Mexico
  • Crashing into the Northern Atlantic in Norway
  • Oompahing with a belly full of sausage in Germany
  • Sailing on Freedom's Wind in America
  • Wandering the narrow streets of Morocco
  • Eating a late meal just before Illuminations at Rose and Crown
  • All of the countries lit up at night

PS. Is it just me or does anyone else go the same way around the WS every time? Try as I might, I always seems to go from Mexico to Canada and not the other way around. We started with Canada first last trip and immediately quit with Canada (must have been that darn movie). It wasn't until the last night of our trip that we finally made it all the way around but we started with Mexico first. :brick:

We generally find ourselves starting with Canada and going from there. Gotta get some Off Kilter and Roots fast!

I enjoy the gardens. After running around the other parks and Future World like crazy, we spend a lot of time just sitting amongst the flowers and landscaping and just watching.

I love this thread! World Showcase is my favorite place at WDW.

It's great to stroll along and get a little taste of the world. The shops are awesome, the food is fantastic, the drinks are, well, intoxicating :)

The British Invasion is my absolute favorite thing about World Showcase. Really can't put a value on getting a yard of beer, taking a break and enjoying the show. For me, the British Invasion alone is worth the price of admission.

Okay, now I'm having Epcot withdrawls. Great.

Whenever I went to Epcot, I always started from Canada too, because that's the fastest way to get to France. We never really got to to Mexico cuz we chilled in France and Morocco the whole time. But i was reading an older thread on here that talks about how most people go to the right. WHen they enter the park, they usually go right, and when they stand in line, they usually stand in the right line. I hear that if you go left the lines are shorter. I will def. try this next time and start in Mexico!

Instead of picking one thing about one country, I'd have to say the relaxing atmosphere of the whole place is great.
After a day of running around the parks, I love to stroll leisurely through the World Showcase. Nothing beats it.

It is purely the feeling. I actually used to be very so-so WS as a kid. There were only select things I liked (O Canada, Mitsukoshi Dept. Store, American Adventure, Maelstrom, and El Rio). But, when on my CP, I realized the romance of the place. Not necessarily in a lovers sort of way but just the oddly relaxed kinetic energy that exists, especially at night. It's like a giant painting. I remember sitting at the lagoon-side bench in Norway and just looking out over the pavilions. It is a unique feeling that blends these areas in a very Disney way. It is not meant as reality; it is a showcase. I really never appreciated just what that word meant until a few years ago.
