What is your Disney moment?

Today is my Disney anniversary! What do I mean? I'll tell you. Everyone likes Disney as children. We see the movies and they are just great. I have happy memories of seeing things like Fox and the Hound and 101 Dalmations in the theaters as a kid. Then I become a teenager. If you're like me, when I was in my teens I thought Disney was just for kids. I remember once my friend tried to get me to go see Beauty and the Beast in the movie theater, telling me about how good it was. I laughed at him and told him that he hung out with his little sisters too much  It wasn't until BatB came out on video and I saw it that I took what he said seriously, but I still wasn't hooked.

My "moment" came ten years ago today, June 24th 1994. I was an assistant manager at a video store and enjoyed playing Disney movies in the store for our customers, especially Aladdin, which had just come to video recently. I loved the songs, and Jafar and Iago were great! We started getting stuff in for Disney's next movie, The Lion King, a few weeks before it came out to theaters. I remember saying that TLK would never be better than Aladdin. I remember reading the names of the characters and thinking nobody will ever remember weird names like Timon, Rafiki, Nala etc. The day The Lion King came out (6/24/94) everyone who worked at my store got together after work to see it in the theater. Once "Circle of Life" came on I got goosebumps (I'm getting them now just remembering this!) By the time that song was over something just clicked. I knew that I would never be the same, that I would be a Disney fan for the rest of my life. And I have been ever since!

I'm wondering about everyone else. Is there a special moment in your life where you knew that your life had changed, or have you always loved Disney?

Well, I've always been a Disney fan (my first word was 'Mickey' :p ) But I was reminded of that when I visited DisneyWorld. (9/7/02) I was just so amazed to see all these characters I forgot about! Since then I watch more movies and I'm more aware of what's going on at Disney!

Well, I think I have a couple.

One was where I rediscovered my love of Disney through the all new Mickey Mouse Club. It was such a wonderful time for me!

Second was when I got my job at The Disney Store. I felt like I was finally part of the company I loved so much! Plus the place where I would eventually meet my best friend.

Third was when I got accepted in to the WDWCP. I remember where I was standing and everything!

My Disney anniversary is May 9 because that's when I found out that I was going to be a CM at The Disney Store! Five years and counting!

Cool! My wife's been a Disney Store CM for 8 years now. I keep telling her I won't let her quit until she's been there for 20 so she can retire with full benefits (That is if there's still TDS around in 12 years, and if they're still owned by Disney... )

I honestly never had much interest in Disney when I was young. I grew up in the 1980's, and that was not a great period for Disney films. Also, my family had a summer place in Northern Michigan, so most of our vacations were to the shores of Lake Michigan.

My first trip to Disney World was in 1992 over Christmas with a high school group (my junior year). Prior to the news of this trip, I really had no interest in anything Disney. As the trip approached, I was getting more excited. Some time in October, I saw Beauty and the Beast for the first time....besides the classic movies from the 40's and 50's, I had not seen any Disney films....I was more into action and adventure films. Well, I loved the movie, and a few weeks later, I attended the opening of Aladdin (back when the movies opened over Thanksgiving). This was the perfect Disney movie for me, and I still my favorite.

Well, a few weeks later, my flight boarded at DTW for the trip...it was the day after Christmas, and was freezing cold. Within 2.5 hours, my classmates and I were in the 85 degree heat or Orlando, and loving it. I fell in love with Orlando (no wonder I moved here the day after I graduated from college). Being at WDW for the first time over the Christmas holiday was a treat...everything so beautiful, decorated for the season , it was perfection to me. Sure, the parks were busy, but the waits were no longer than at my former home park of Cedar Point. On that trip I think I fell in love for the first time, and had the time of my life, up to that point of course.

Anyway, Aladdin was all over MGM that trip...the parade, the Soundstage restaurant, the music....the movie still reminds me of that trip.

I think I forgot my point...so I will end it at that.

I really loved Mulan

I Actually always liked post-Little mermaid disney animations, and I always hated/disliked the classics pre-Little mermaid. Aladdin, Lion King, Hercules, and many others are just amazing. But I think the best Disney animated movie I've ever seens was Mulan. I loved very much the history, the laughs, the sad and happy parts... And, if you really like disney, I recommend you to see "Princess Mononoke" (1998 I think), and "Nausicaa from the Valley of the Wind" (1981). Both are from the "Japanese Disney" Miyasaki, and are actually better than any Disney movie (but it's just my opinion). I didn't liked Spirited Away that much... same thing with My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's delivery service. But my 3rd favorite miyasaki movie after PMononoke and Nausicaa, is Porco Rosso... a Really good one and a must see for every Disney fan... absolutly amazing.
