What is this building all about?

It's a brand new concert hall for Orchestras and such.

It's got great accoustics. Some say too perfect due to being able to hear coughing, etc. so much on stage.

It was same famous architect that did the design etc. I believe it was mostly donations from actual Disneys that payed for the building.

I think that it is interesting that Disney is contributing to the whole music world... what with Mickey's PhilarMagic and now this, I like that Disney is paying MORE attention to music than they have in the past. Being a music buff, I would definately like to see a couple concerts in that building :D

It was the Disney family and not the company who made the big donation for this hall, it was somthing like $50 million (don't really remember how much) but that wasn't even enough for starting the cosntruction so everything was paid with more donations from other institutions and the City of Los Angeles.

It is designed by Frank Ghery, world reknown architect. I must commend Disney, they have some top names in architects, Graves, Ghery, Arquitectonica. But Ghery is a crazy guy who comes up with these radical designs that he has to make a model first, since it is rather hard for his firm to draft out. I saw this place on television and it is beautiful!!!

Thanks for the info. I didn't really read on the site so I didn't know. I do admire the architecture. I think it is a beautiful building on the model and I haven't seen the actual building, but I'm sure it's beautiful too.

I was reading an old copy of the Disney Magazine and there was an article stating that Walts' widow wanted this built but died before it's completion.

It's a stunning building, isn't it? It's supposed to be part of some downtown renovation project in LA, if memory serves.

BTW - Mr. Disney - That avatar!! You picked the one Queer Eye I can't stand. Nice pic tho! :D

Haha I'm sorry. I don't even really watch Queer Eye because I don't have cable, but you can blame my parents for that ... :( ... I just got that one because of the episodes I've seen, I've thought it was pretty cool, but people @ school call me a Culture Vulture so I just thought it fit.:animwink:
