What is the Standard? - Do operational costumes impact the park experiance?

How important is the costuming being worn by the operator to your park experience?

  • Costumes make the experience (All Cast are entertainers and need a highly themed costume)

  • Costumes are important (They help tell the story)

  • Look is important but theming is not (casual dressy)

  • Costumes have no impact on experience (Everyone should be in jeans and a polo style shirt.)

The Operational Costumes that Cast Members wear (ride operators, outdoor food vendor, that custodian sweeping the street) have always played a vital role in the park experience OR have they? Each year the parks spend large dollars to keep everyone looking good. How important is the costuming being worn by the operator to your park experience?

WOW! Interesting response. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of passion about the use of operational costumes. Those that did respond feel that there should be more theming for the operators. Costuming for the Cast is something that I guess we just don’t think about while visiting the parks. Look for a new What’s the standard soon.

I think about costuming for CMs when walking down Main Street, wondering if any of the CMs will die of heat stroke in the summer sun. Our CM tour guide for our Keys to the Kingdom Tour told us he was very proud to wear his uniform - long sleeve shirt, vest, tie, long pants - even though the temperature was in the upper 90s. And the women are wearing panty hose. No woman in her right mind wears panty hose in Florida in the summer anymore.

I'm surprised Disney doesn't have a summer version - nice shorts/short sleeve shirts - for the summer. The cops up here in North Florida wear shorts/short sleeve shirts in the summer....
