What exactly IS D23? And why are they having an event with Billy Dee Williams on 8/19? Is this event part of some D23 convention which will add to the park crowds during this time? Thanks:wave:

This is one of many celebrities that will be attending the D23 Expo which is at the Anahiem Convention Center BEHIND The Disneyland Resort...Their site is here...http://d23.disney.go.com/expo/
Unless your going to the Resort during the same time the convention is...Then yes it will add crowds....WDW However...It won't.

Remember a decade ago when you could buy those Disney Magazines at supermarkets / bookstores for a few bucks?
Pretend it's the same thing, up the price to around $40 -$80 annually, throw in a certificate, membership card...then presto! You have D23.

LOL! Ah, yes, I do recall! How funny! I remember seeing some threads about 'D23', but thought it was some type of exclusive/insider thing. SO glad it's not at WDW! But I WOULD like to meet Billy Dee someday

It's a magazine subscription mostly. There have been a few "events", almost all in CA, but tickets are very hard to come by even for "members".
Disney sells it as some exclusive, insider thing - but they have yet to reveal anything in one of those magazines that we didn't already know here, and should anything ever be released we'll see it here within moments anyway.
It was Disney's attempt to cash in on the Internet Disney community, but I honestly won't be surprised if in a few years it won't even exist.

You nailed all the reasons why I won't become a member of D23, even though I'm a huge Disney fan. I just don't see what the premiums are for fans who don't live in California.
