on my way to work i was wondering how could disney keep such classics like cop, iasm, tiki room?i think the problem lies with 2 main factors1-lack of interest by any under 30 and 2-lack of new technology. so how can disney go around this and keep the 3 classics.what if they addressed the issue by doing this.
1-come up with new marketing blitz that showcases the 3 attractions as disney classics.let the world know that walt disney hemself made these happen.they would put up new signing in front of each of the 3 that stated "disney classic" and gave a little summary of the history of the attraction with walt.design all new park brochures that have a special classics page that again describes a brief history of the 3-let the guests know that tiki room was one of the first audio animatronic shows ever done .all of these ideas will also help with the lack of technology-it is all kinda a disclaimer by letting guests know they are classics they wont roll their eyes at the lack of modern technology and compare them to newer attractions because they will realize the technology cam from that 60s and will enjoy it what it is a true disney classic-

maybe i should listen to the radio more driving to work:D :D :D

Your idea is GREAT! They should have done this for the 100 Years of Magic. I'm pretty sure that if they had a sign like that, "Classic", or had advertised more maybe not even the late Toad, Horizons and WoM would have gone... Maybe they know it but don't do it because they're waiting for the "parking"spaces... :brick:

For Carousel of Progress and Tiki Room, it's a little easier. The new Tiki Room is a mistake - it's obnoxious and really "kicks out" the true original fans.

1. CoP - It's still loveable. I've been in the theater, with singing along and clapping recently, I was pretty surprsied! What can be done is update the final scene, but making sure to still keep the CoP originality. Ala Horizons??

2. Tiki Room - Little Harder. New jokes could be added (some of the current ones at Disneyland, i.e. "so low") have been around for years. Maybe shorten some songs from the original show... And possibly add a Birds from Around the World section, I don't know, with Zazu, or The Three Caballeros, lasting for a couple minutes. Uh oha would be fine, with a singing role added to the Hawaiian War Chant. The four main birds can be advanced to have moving wings - just small suggestions.

Whatever the attraction, these are the "Walt influenced classics" that I think must stay in some original form, in Disneyland or Walt Disney World:

1. Carousel of Progress
2. It's a Small World
3. Haunted Mansion
4. Pirates of the Caribbean
5. Country Bear Jamboree
6. Jungle Cruise
7. Main Street Electrical Parade

If I understand you right, you mean keep the original format idea, just update to the times as needed. If so, then I agree. Jungle Cruise has been updated before, I think it's time to do so again. Just replace and add to the cruise, not change the attraction to a new theme or anything. Same with the Country Bears, introduce some new songs and maybe a new bear or two, but leave the show. That was the mistake on the Tiki Room, the new goddess was great, but they cut out most of the songs and turned it into an Iago show for the most part. At worse, they should have just made a new version of some favorite songs and added some new ones. maybe have Iago and Zazu as guest singers for one song, but Iago's voice is so bad that the goddess wakes:lol: . Of well, I agree, but it's too late in some cases.

How do you feel toward the Tarzan Treehouse at DL, grizz? or
The Alien Encounter change at MK? Just curious.

Another idea for Tiki Room... add seats like you find in Alien Encounter to keep people from walking out!

As for CBJ, the idea for new characters has been added...it hasn't worked WELL, and I don't think there's much room! As for music, sure...as long as it fits. I'd hate seeing modern country in a classic Americana show!!

However, there are "other" seasonal CBJ shows, which freshens up the place, you know?

I'm a picky guy, but I wouldn't mind this change:

Animatronic Advancement: Boy, look at Tokyo's! I love our Bear Design, and the current ones are actually *very good* (but are 30 years old); if you went in Christmas 2001, they acted pretty bad due to an accident in a new "digital system". However, they're great currently...however, it'd be neat to see them even more advanced...

Any attraction can use updating; but it's the updating that adds to the original experience that keeps it a truly living classic!

I hate to burst everyones bubble. With the exception of COP... Walt had very little to do with the attractions at WDW. The "Classic" attractions you are speaking of, are updated copies of DL.

Walt may have helped with the basic storyline and layout, but didn't have the type of focused input he had in DL, due to other obligations and failing health.

I stated in an earlier thread, COP in it current (Worlds Fair) state with a really cool pre and/or post show could make a nice attraction exploring the art of animatronics. To this day, no one does animatroncs better than Disney.

I agree that, more is needed to justify these as classic attractions. Maybe in the preshow, have what the inspiration was, or where the concept came from. What new technology it introduced.

Walt had a little to do with the CBJ as it is now, he told Marc Davis to come up with an idea to do with bears for the ski resort. Then after that didn't work out nothing really was done till they needed something new for WDW. So in a way off way Walt had a little to do with it. But the HM Walt really only had his hand in the outside. He kept on putting it on hold while he was alive and no plans were ever done for it till after Walt had passed away. If you go back and look at the stuff from the TV shows when ever Walt would be around HM stuff it would be more of the old walk through stuff.

CBJ was "Walt's Last Laugh" - the final specific attraction he came up with...and it was a concept he started laughing at for the final time before his passing. It really means a lot...and boy, attendance sure is high! Though it's not as big as his EPCOT dream was, it was one of his original dreams that came true.
