**DISCLAIMER - THIS THREAD IS A HISTORICAL THOUGHT EXPERIMENT. PLEASE TRY TO KEEP ON TOPIC, AND NOT DEVOLVE INTO A POLITICAL DISCUSSION OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THIS EXPERIMENT, WHICH IS HISTORICAL ONLY, FOR FUN**
Well, the US is coming off a rather heated political year, and as we settle into the Presidency of the third large businessman to be elected (Hoover and Harding being others), it raises a fun chance for a thought experiment, especially for history or political buffs.
Clarification note, I don't include the Bush's, the Kennedy, and a few others because they were political families with business interests. GWB was an oil executive, but his family had been political for decades. I also don't include people like Coolidge, Truman and Carter, because their businesses were on a vastly smaller scale.
Anyway, history aside...this is a thought experiment. A challenge. What if Walt had run for the Presidency, and won?
The challenge is as follows:
1) When would Walt have run, and why?
Walt was a popular figure, and household name, for decades. Feel free to provide biographical/personal motivations which could have led to his run for office.
2) What would his platform have looked like?
You can expound on issues, but here are some suggestions:
3) Political Strategy
How would he have campaigned?
4) Policy through tenure (By term), and long term impacts
What do you think he would have proposed? Accomplished? Assume he has a full 8 years (unless you take the "he ran against FDR before the 22nd Amendment" stance, and then feel free to explain each term as you wish)
That said, Walt wasn't without concerns. Whilst he's beloved here, he also had some issues which could lead to him being politically questionable...feel free to address that as well, if you'd like.
There are just suggestions for the thought experiment. There is no set requirement...just answer the question as you see fit. Feel free to outline details of his programs, why you think they would or wouldn't have worked, etc. So, the simple question is...
What would have happened if Walt Disney had run for, and won, the Presidency?
I will check this thread regularly for input and feedback. Submissions are due here in this thread on or around 4/30 and will be judged the evening of 5/1.
General discussion can occur in the thread (about the topic), but if you make a submission you wish to be judged, please note that in bold at the top of your post, so I can find them easier.
Your prize? Um...bragging rights?
Good luck!
