What happens to leftover food in the villas?

Hey there. Does anyone happen to know what happens to leftover food and drink that guests leave behind in the Villas? I

I ask because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs at the grocery store before arriving at Old Key West and we left behind a half box of pancake mix, 3/4 bottle of syrup ,a full stick of butter, a couple of tomatoes, half a bag of spinach, a full unopened bag of Sun Chips, an unopened half gallon of sweet tea, and of course hell froze over because we also left behind a half a bottle of rum.

Do they just dispose of all of it? Can Mousekeeping keep it? Does it go to a food bank? Anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

I can't answer your exact question. I will say when we stay at one of the resorts (not the villas) we stop a family walking down the hall to their room and ask if they are interested in our unopened food.

The families are not expecting it so a little taken aback, but grateful and excited.

Kinda like when you could give an paper copy of your extra "fast passes" to strangers. Or, those that give their balloon to a child on their way out. Or, the families that gift others the strollers they are not taking home.

Everyone feels good about it. Again, didn't answer your question but some "food (ha ha) for thought" for the future.

I don't know where they send any of it, except for the rum...

Technically, all opened items are tossed, but I would not be surprised if something like a half bottle of rum found itself a new home.

Unopened items and all left over prepared food from all the restaurants goes to Second Harvest Food Bank and the Orlando City Mission.

I was hoping someone would say that the unopened food went to a Food Bank, it would be a shame to throw that away. And @BuddyThomas shame on you for leaving a half a bottle of rum! ;) Hopefully that was like the second bottle or something! I guess I will have to see you explain this in your trip report! :)

Side note, once when I was standing in the lobby of Port Orleans Riverside with my rolly bag after checking in and a lady came up to me with a bottle of sunscreen. They were leaving and wanted to give it away. It was a spray bottle, so I took it and thanked her. Although last year when I got to my room at the Sports and found a few packs of yogurt and a half frozen/used container of orange juice in my room refrigerator I was a little grossed out, as I thought housekeeping should cleaned that out. However, if I liked yogurt I would have been a little happy about the free unopened food.

This is good to know. Due to a late shipment by Amazon Pantry a couple of years ago, we left a LOT of food, unopened, piled up on the kitchen island with a note to please take it. We had no interest in taking it back with us (it was enough for the week, and the shipment showed up with like 2 days left on the trip), so we were hoping someone could use it.

We stayed at a condo complex in the Bahamas that had a sign in the lobby stating all unopened non-perishable food items could be brought to the front desk and staff would donate it to a local food bank. They also said to leave unopened perishable items in the fridge at check out and staff would collect it for donation as well. We thought this was a nice jesture.
