Well, I guess one question would be: what is the planned life span of a WDW resort property? :veryconfu

Given that the Disney Institute was mostly razed to make way for SSR, I could easily imagine OKW getting bulldozed at some point a few decades in the future to make way for a brand new resort (with part of the new room inventory allocated to DVC, of course)

That may or may not happen before the current OKW leases expire in 2042, as those buildings will be pretty long in the tooth in another 36 years! So, I guess another question would be, if they bulldoze OKW before 2042, would they leave enough buildings alone to cover DVC inventory until replacement buildings were made available?

That is assuming that existing members would get interest in the new resort until their original lease expires in 2042.

Ugh, thinking about it this hard is making my head hurt!

You have asked the question that is the key to the DVC. The answer is that Disney (not DVC) has total control of the property. Any of those leases can be bought out tomorrow or extended for 10, 20 or 30 years at the sole discretion of Disney. DVC has first right of refusal on all leases but Disney has sole ownership and can snatch it away at any time.

You're real question should be, what happens 20 years into the DVC lease? It's going to be like trying to sell a used car at full price.

...a REALLY good question...and an interesting thought, Woody. I've always viewed milestones such as this as "stop" signs rather than "do not enter" signs. In other words, at a stop sign, you just have to bring your vehicle to a halt, evaluate the situation and then decide how to proceed. At a do not enter, you just grind to a halt and tghen go away. Who knows what will happen when the date arrives. We will all come to a stop signs and review what options are there....but as Woody rightly says, Disney controls all of the options.

My vote is that they get torn down.....and I've always thought that it is a positive that there's an ending date....most timeshares go on forever and I've always thought having unknown costs looming to try to fix up a 60 year old building would not be fun!!
