what happened to discovery island? what is it being used for? etc

Discovery Island closed shortly after Animal Kingdom opened because WDW doesn't need two animal-themed parks. There are no plans for the island at this time.

They also have changed the name of Safari Village at Animal Kingdom where the Tree of Life is to Discovery Island.
