We will soon be heading to WDW for the maybe 20th time. Just the DW and myself. My co-worker keeps asking me why, it's for kids? I try to explain and they say, I've been to Disneyland and it's the same thing! Now I know they went more than 20 years ago but still they aren't even close except for MK. So what do you say to people like that? I am at a loss.

I'm a 47 year old male that sometimes takes solo trips to DW, none of my male friends understand and all think I'm weird for going to DW. I actually had a friend tell me that you could get arrested for being a pervert by going to DW. The only way to get them to kinda understand is to tell them they serve alcohol at all the parks

Disney is in the entertainment business. I tell people if you're between 8 to 80 there is something there for you. I mentioned this in another thread, I have a friend who is 60 and has never been. When I invited him down recently his response was " a carnival? I never considered that" and then I had to explain it's not a carnival ! Some people just don't get it.

Most people don't get it.

My wife, who has never been to a Disney park, is going for the first time this November. Until recently, she thought I was kind of nuts because of my obsession with the parks and their history. She was under the misconception that they were really for kids, as well. The more I've shown her about the resort, the more she's understanding the sheer variety of experiences that are available there. I truly think she's going to be blown away, once she gets some firsthand experience.

People who know us know that we travel widely, and WDW is just one of our favorite destinations. People who don't know us well? I just shrug and say that we find plenty of things to do there that aren't just for kids. I don't feel a compelling need to change their opinion.

People of that mentality are usually NOT GOING to understand. It's a shame. They are the ones who miss out

On the occasions that I have the energy to try to educate people, about how Disney is not just about rides and cartoons blahblahblah, and give a little glimpse into “A day in the life” of dining, spectaculars, The Disney Bubble, The Disney Difference, and yes, obviously the rides, pretty much everyone I’ve lectured responded with a “huh...that does sound nice.” Of course, most people still won’t fully “get it”...because their hearts aren’t full of the memories and hopes and dreams of Disney that I’ve amassed over the years. I hope everyone is as lucky as I am to have a happy place.

People don’t understand basic concepts like budgeting. I’ve given up trying to explain why I go to Disney.

People basically think they are right about everything, including their opinions, so better to just not talk to most people unless it’s about the weather.

I find it interesting that most of the people who question me (or more so pick on me) on my love for Disney, that even though they have children of their own, most of them have have never gone to Disney.
...never...gone...to...Disney.

In my head I'm like, "Why do you question me on my love for Disney when you don't know what it's like??"

I say, "I just love it, that's all."

They reply with that "But it's for kids" thing.

My response to that is, "Have you ever been?"

They reply with, "No."

My answer, "Well, it's not just for kids and it is still there! Why not go."

Most of the time they haven't gone, but then there are some who have gone but were too young to remember.

My response to them is, "Well since you are now an adult..."
