Hi-i was wondering what is an average tip for valet parking at a deluxe resort?

We tended to tip the person when we picked up our car. If we had bags when we pulled up and they helped us take them out then we tip at drop off, but that only happened once. We tipped $2-$3 dollars.

I have worked as a valet attendant many times before.
As an attendant you never expect a tip at drop off but when you get one its well appreciated especially if there are bags, but dont feel you have to.

If you do tip at drop off you will have to tip again at pick up, nothing worse than getting a car for no money.

Usually tips are pooled with other attendants so dont worry about who is getting your car later, you can ask if your first attn. will be there later, makes them feel special, as if you like them.

As far as how much?
Drop off $2, 3, 4 but not mandatory.
Pick-up at least $3, remember its a car not an ice cream cone. $5+ is a good tip the attendant will think well of you. $1 will think you are, well, cheap. $0 you dont want to know what they think of you.

If you have a nice car, tip extra at the start will get you a better parking spot, safer.

Remember, tip as you would want to be tipped. And when valet is busy its not a fun job.:animwink:

This isn't the end all and be all, but here is a guide
http://hotels.about.com/od/hotelsecrets/a/tipping_2.htm

The guide says a little bit less than Beuford, but you have to also consider where you are and how much work is going into the job. If your car is just being parked in a space right next to where you got out then the guide is probably spot on. Otherwise if you feel you are getting good service you should be as generous as you can afford.

Good to know. We never tip less than $3 and usually we tip like $5 thanks to the free valet provided by DDE.

We tip upon checking and any time our car is retrieved for us. The valet has always helped unload and put the bags on the cart for us at check in & he usually gets $5.
After that its usually $2 to fetch the car and an extra $1 if the A/C is on & the windows open to cool the car for us....but that doesn't always happen.

I've always gone with the $1 per bag/piece of luggage rule. If you're not travelling with luggage, then $3-$5 bucks upon return of your car seems fair.

have a good trip...
