What determines which Disney properties get the Walt Disney Pictures logo?

When I watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny I was surprised to see the Disney Logo with the Cinderella castle at the beginning of the opening credits, as none of the Disney-released Star Wars movies — which are also from Lucasfilm — used the Disney Logo. Acquired animated movies like Spies in Disguise didn't use the Disney logo. None of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies released by Disney use the Disney logo. Avatar: The Way of Water was released as a 20th Century Studios film. But Disney uses its logo for every Pixar film.

So what is the deciding factor? Is it contractual obligations made before the Disney acquistions? Or is a branding thing, where Disney feels some properties would benefit from the association with Disney (Pixar, Indiana Jones) and feels other properties would be weakened by association with Disney (Star Wars, Avatar, Marvel, etc.)

I was just mildly curious and couldn't find the answer anywhere else.

They pretty much only did it to Disney Live Action, Disney Animation and Pixar. Indiana Jones was the first time they did it to a Lucasfilm film.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm Paramount still held the distribution rights to Indiana Jones movies.

Disney made a deal to take over distribution, with Paramount still getting their financial cut per the original agreement.

I'm assuming part of that agreement included the provision that Paramount still got their logo in front of the movie.

If that were not the case, it might have just been the Lucasfilm logo. Since the Paramount logo was there it would make sense that Disney would also want their logo included.

Any idea if Paramount is getting a cut of the box office?

If it’s a film that’s going to lose money it gets the logo.

If a Disney-owned subsidiary films like Lucasfilm/Marvel/20th Century Studios-produced films had direct co-production involvement from Walt Disney Pictures, the Walt Disney Pictures logo will appeared. This is case for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, where the film received co-production involvement from Disney, as in poster below

On the other side, Marvel, Disney-era Star Wars (also from Lucasfilm), or 20th Century Studios films didn't have Disney logo at the opening credits. This happened because Disney ONLY distribute the film through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, not co-produce the film. So, unless they had Walt Disney Pictures involvement as in Disney100/Marvel Studios dream logo combos video below, the appearance of Disney logo looks unlikely.
