What are the CM "Ranks"?

I was wondering what the different "levels" of experience there are as a CM. I've heard of CMs that are just beginning are referred to as "Earning their Ears", and I've heard of CM Leads. How does the CM hierarchy work?

Each area of Disney is different. When I was a CM at the Disney Store, we were called CM's and the head manager was the manager. However asst. managers were called "leads" but I believe that has changed now too.

I know in WDW there are CP's (college program), seasonal CMs, part time CM's, and full time CMs. Im not sure but usually the full time possitions are saved for managers.

In WDW, everyone starts at the bottom and their seniority is counted by years of service. Seasonal CMs only have to work 1 day out of every 6 months to keep their status. So it's a good way to get on board and join the team if you live far away like I do. :animwink:

Just don't think you will be making a huge pile of money, lol.

what do area and duty managers do?

If one was to make a career at Disney starting out as a CM would this be a likely path of promotion?: (I know they don't have leads anymore, but let's say they still do) :)

"Earning My Ears" CM (Trainee) ->Full Time CM -> CM Lead -> What's next

In the Tech world of Enterrtainment there are still leads. They are called Crew Chiefs. There are also different levels of Techs below Leads. Level 4, Level 3, Level 2 techs. The difference betweens 2, 3, and 4's are pay, and skill level. Level 2's are the highest in this group. Level 1 Techs are the Crew Chiefs. Unless they were Level 1's before the rule came out that to be a level 1 you must be in a lead position at a stage or area or planner postition.

Well now without the lead position it is more difficult to become a manager.

In 60% of the departments it there are only CMs and Guest Service Managers. In other areas there are coordinators in between the CMs and managers. Very, very few areas also have Team Leaders who are similar to leads, but those tend to be in non host or hostess positions (meaning merchandise, food and bev, and attractions).

I work in Outdoor Foods. You have the CM (including CPs, Full and Part Time) then we have four managers, they have a manager, and they that person has a manager. And then there's one more person above that I believe. I am not even sure of the three top CMs offical positions...

the funny thing about them getting rid of the lead system, not that it was much more money but I digress. Anyway I was trying to say at the front desk we have the same responsibility but still get paid the same since they took that title away.
