What about these coveted PIN codes from Disney?

I dont really know but I am under the belief that the more mailing lists(from disneyworld.com, disneyland.com, etc...) you sign up for the better your chances are. Granted that I have heard people on here say they did that and it didnt work, and some say that it dose.

Here is my theory--take or leave it. For years, we used my MIL's RCI week to stay in Orlando. We also made ADRs for restaurants for our vacation, so they had info about us. I have received PIN codes left, right and center for years, free dining, room only discounts and we never bit. Two years ago, we decided to take advantage of the 40% discount to stay at Deluxe villa. I also got the same discount last year. In between trips I would get so many free dining discounts, but I was in grad school and the dates conflicted with my responsibilities. This year have received nothing.

I think they figure they have gotten us hooked to staying on property and thus, no need to send us inducements to stay on property.

And you know what? That's cool. We are going to Anaheim in March and we are looking at DCL, instead of WDW. I don't feel the rooms are worth it without a discount.

ETA: I think this is only ONE determinant on who gets PIN codes. I do think there are various algorithms used in determining who gets them.

hmmm, I kind of think your theory might be partially correct, disney sends them out to lure you..and then of course there is that algorithim the computers are using to select people of certain mailing lists...

I just recently noticed that I've been getting pin codes for months but never knew where to look for them in my emails. I was always expecting "special offer" or "discount offer" or something in the subject line with the pin code as the primary object in the email. However what I was actually getting was "Disney Resort Pics and More #### Family" with the pin code nestled in the bottom right portion of the email. Basically I would investigate and price a vacation and save it on disneyworld.com. Then a couple weeks later, when I didn't book the trip, an email would show up showing me the details of the resort I had saved. In the fine print in the bottom right of the email was a special offers section with a pin code. It worked for me on a trip for early December, the pin code even worked for dates outside the listed dates on the email. It had some specific dates for November but worked for a week in December.

Hopefully it works for you too.

I get pin codes left & right to my work email, person email & home address. Weird since my work email isn't signed up for anything, and I can't figure out how they even got it. I usually get the same pin codes to both. I have a Disney Visa, I get the free maps/vacation video with each trip, I'm signed up at every possible site I can think of, I always enter to be a Mickey Mom (no luck yet!), I'm a DMC member....I have no idea if any of these things even matter. The only thing I can say for sure is this - when DH & I went to Disney every year and stayed at his parents Orange Lake time share, I never got pin codes. When we booked our own honeymoon trip in 2008, that's when pin codes began. Each trip since then has been at a Disney Resort, and has been booked with a pin code. I always thought it was our yearly return to a Disney Resort booked with a pin code that was causing us to get so many.

Ever since I signed up online on disneyworld.com I have recieved SO MANY PINs in the mail and emailed to me from Disney Destinations. I chose to be emailed from them just for that reason. The PINS I have recieved the last couple years just kept pouring in.. its been almost 4 years since my last trip so I guess they wanted me back lol. People say its totally random, but I think they have a system for choosing. If you go very often, you probably won't get one, as they know your likely to book again.. if you haven't been there recently (like me) you will probably be more likely to get them so they can get you to book. I don't know, thats just how I see it. This year alone, I recieved 8 PIN's altogether through mail and email.

How do you go about getting that discount? What if you've already booked the package through WDW's website, but not paid yet (other than the deposit)?

This seems to be an obvious advantage for going through Kingdom Konsultants! We will have to seriously consider you guys next time! :)

Just call Disney and have them apply the promotion. In the case of the Disney Visa Discount you will need to charge the trip to a Disney Visa card to get the promotion.

As PPs have mentioned, WDW pretty much needs to know that you exist, and want to travel to WDW. They won't just pick your name out of a phone book and send you a PIN. Some people swear by signing up for the planning video, others swear by the planning a trip and then cancelling it. No one outside of the WDW marketing gnomes know for sure the magic they use to decide who gets one.
