What’s the Standard? – Should there be a different standards of cleanliness?

Should there be a different standards of cleanliness?

  • Clean is clean. ALL areas should held to the highest standard.

  • Highly visible areas (i.e. Park Entrance) should be cleaner than lower visible areas.

  • Lower visible areas (i.e. TTC, Roadways) can slide a little.

  • There should be a double standard between highly and lower visible areas.

  • There is no double standard. Everything looks great.

Recently, my school has been doing something really nasty and the ladies rooms. They leave the silver bins sitting uncovered on the floor in each stall. Absolutely disgusting. I wish they would put them back, covered, on the wall of the stall where they belong. I'm inclined to complain about it since everything else in our school is pristine.

I saw that at Walmart last week for the first time anywhere. What's up with that? Ick. I thought there were board of health standards for such.

Wow. That is quite a statement there. I don't believe it to be true. Did you just make that up or can you substantiate it? I see CMs constantly picking up, emptying trash cans. When I walk into parks in the morning they are clean. The restrooms are always tended to. If it isn't the CMs who is doing all the cleaning?
Yes, it is true. If you ever went to WDW in the 70s and 80s, you saw PROUD CMs carrying dust pans and brooms. You have some now, but they are not happy. They look like they had to settle for it. When they use to have horses in the parades, they had CMs following right behind with pooper scooper shovels in case there was a mess. They were always happy. Not the same now.

It's their job, yes. But the public is lazy and messy, I know I wouldn't want to clean up after tens of thousands everyday.

Personally, I don't sing like Cinderella when I clean the house. I don't walk around smiling and thinking, "Oh, how happy I am to be cleaning! I will have such a clean house when I'm done!" If it's not a joy to clean up after myself and my family, I wouldn't think it's a joy to clean up after messy guests. I can't blame the CMs who look grumpy. Plus, they may look grumpy, but they are still doing their job.

I know. So gross. Everything else about those bathrooms is pristine. Everything's clean, automatic sinks, toilets, and paper towel dispensers, and then that. And it's only in the school of business that I've noticed it. And if course where do we have the most visitors? The school of business. I'm sure that makes quite a good impression on all the visitors.

Well said!

I'm not buying into it that. Yes, I was at both WDW and DL in the 70's and 80's and DL in the 60's. Granted I was small but I don't ever remember my parents being obsessive about needing the Cast to be acting happy or proud while cleaning up after the horses. I remember cast promptly and efficiently cleaning up after the horses. Polite and efficient cast was enough for my folks and myself as a guest. I did clean up after my own horse and that isn't fun, not because it was beneath me, just because it isn't pleasant. Cast does it because it needs to be done. It is a small demographic of guests that gets off on wanting the CMs to be happy and proud while
preforming some of these chores like, protien spills or using a floor as a toliet etc. Cast does it and moves on.

I'm thankful for the Custodial Crew and housekeepers, a thankless, difficult job that the vast majority do extremely well.

I LOL when I read this because I DO like to clean my house, and if Cindy liked Black Sabbath, Fiver Finger Death Punch, and Godsmack, we'd be kindred souls:joyfull:.

Posts like this make me think anything else you have posted is untrue, it is so full of hyperbole and nonsense. I don't think you know for a fact that CMs are less proud of doing hard work then they were back in the day. And no one single person works all day long every day with a smile on their face. Not even you.

I interact with many CMs when I'm on Disney property and can say I'm always greeted by a smile and upbeat comment. Cleaning crews are just as pleasant and sometimes more so because I dont see them being approached by as many guests as others are. Some have pins to trade and are glad to be interrupted by guests to talk and interact for a moment. Good job guys for working so hard to keep the property as clean as you do for us.

Thanks for the interesting responses! Clearly those responding feel that all areas should be held to the same high standard. There seemed to be a large focus on the in park cleanliness and the Cast Members that keep the magic clean. Mixed emotions prevailed when it came the current state of the Restrooms.

My thoughts on the subject are that there is clearly multiple standards for areas that are less visible. The next time you at the Magic Kingdom notice the Monorail beam around the Seven Seas Lagoon. In front of the park and towards the Contemporary Resort looks great. This area of the beam is obviously pressure washed on a regular basis. However if you look at the beam in the area of TTC you find it is quite dark and moldy. Another example of this can be found at Epcot where the cleaning stops just outside the front gate. The further away from the park you get the more mold you can find.
