WesCOT (Open Brainstorm)

Hi everyone! As you probably know, I am currently working on a project called Disney Kingdom. It is a huge resort in Missouri. One of the parks (and my favorite of the 3) is WestCOT, based off the scrapped idea for the area that now holds California Adventure. This is my dream park, along with everyone else's input to make it the best park the community of wdwmagic can come up with. Remember, sky's the limit, so space is no problem and cost is no problem. It should still stay somewhat realistic, though.

Here is what I have so far (no details on any ride yet):
Future World
  • Weenie (need ideas!)
  • 2-3 Pavilions that have to do with TECHNOLOGY

Innovation Central
  • Weenie
  • Gardens (interactive?)
  • Journey Into Imagination
  • Innoventions
  • Imagineer Showcase?
  • 1 or 2 more Pavilions (ideas?)

The Earth
  • Weenie
  • Gardens (Lots of Water and Plants!!!)
  • The Living Seas (or Something like that)
  • A volcano-type roller coaster (could be the weenie)
  • The Land (or something like it)
  • Something related to Weather
  • Any more?

The Cosmos (No better name for now)

  • Weenie
  • Decorations
  • Mission: Space (or something like it?)
  • Horizons (or something like it?)
  • Anything else? I need more!!
The other thing it will probably need is a land based on chemistry/biology (life, chemicals, atoms, molecules, etc.). It also needs something like a world pavilion, but I was wondering if anyone can come up with something different and innovative (any ideas?).

Umm, so I guess this works like any open brainstorm, so brainstorm away! If anyone wants to take a certain project, by all means do so! The one thing is that I want to work on the things in "The Earth" and Journey Into Imagination, so if you guys want to do any of those, I will help out!

I am also working on this on Visions Fantastic (another website), so that I can get as much creative energy as possible working on it. If any ideas pop up there, I'll post them here, and visa versa. http://www.visionsfantastic.com/forum/f60/westcot-open-brainstorming-28730/

For Innovation Central, you could change the name to Innovention Central, and add a Forensics & Crime Pavilion and/or an Art Pavilion.

I'm calling it innovation central because it has more to do than innoventions, it is also the "headquarters" of imagineering in Disney Kingdom. Also, I don't know if a forensics and crime pavilion would be the best idea in a Disney Park, since its all about death, whereas the park is the "happiest place on earth". An art pavilion would be cool though! If you want, you could work on it!

I do have some ideas for an Art Pavilion. I called it "Marvels of Art." I created a thread for it. Here is that thread: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=543585

^sounds fun :) I guess it may need a hands-on experience, but other than that, its good. Do you want to work on it?

I have some ideas I would be willing to share that might be useful, but I want to know a few things first. Is the park going to be mainly educational and serious such as the original Epcot, or have more of a mixture including characters as in the current Epcot? Also, do you want some thrills or mainly traditional dark rides?

^I want mainly dark rides. However, thrills would be a good thing to have separately. Also, this park is kind of a blend between the current and past EPCOT. It will feature the fun friendliness of characters and entertainment, while at the same time educating guests, even if the education is so subtle, that the guests don't realize they are learning something. Do you understand?

Ok, well I'm not sure if you'll like these ideas but I'll share them anyways. I know you said you wanted mostly dark rides, but I have a good idea for a launched indoor roller coaster. It would be a replacement for the Imagination dark ride and would be called Brainstormers. The story behind is that Dreamfinder has invented a machine to send people into their own imagination. People get into the roller coaster car, and one member is supposed to get a brain scan, but figment gets in the way, and you are launched into his imagination instead, past many dark light effects, color effects, and a ginat figment. You could even have a dark ride portion to round out the end with figment singing th imagination song. My other idea would also be a part of the imagination pavillion, and be known as Muppet Labs. It would be a hands on interactive attraction much like dream works, but including muppet AAs to guide you. Bunsen and Beaker would provide the introduction. So, I'll see what you think about all this, and we'll go from there.

First, the muppet lab idea is good! Let's get that designed and in. Second, I like the roller coaster idea! I think what we could do is put this ride and a dark ride for JII in the pavilion. My reasoning for keeping a dark ride in is that the pavilion is a little kid-oriented, so maybe having a ride like in EPCOT, while also adding a roller coaster. I love the idea of the coaster, so I want you to build on it and design it, if you want of course!

Also, we could put the muppet lab into the pavilion. Also, I was thinking about putting in a hands-on interactive experience for JII. Basically, people create their own "imaginary friend". Once you create your friend (using multiple templates and colors, etc.), you get a printout card with your friend on it. You can use this card to play video games and stuff using your friend as a character. You could also buy a plush version of your friend (with all possible varieties in stock).

This would provide an opportunity to advertise online. We could make a virtual world like VMK, mixed with Toontown. You could pay to create your very own account, and your own imaginary friend. However, if you go to WestCOT and create a friend, your account would be free, and your character would be your friend.

How does this sound? Should I make any other changes? Thanks

Yeah, I see your point about Imagination needing to be kid friendly, but I do worry that the two rides would be repetative in terms of theme, because what I was imagining would be a replacement for the dark ride, but you are right. We just need to devise a way to make the two different enough.

And I do like your idea for the "make a friend". It's a great idea in general and perfect for the pavillion. I'm thinking it would go in the gift shop. However, in order to offer all possible variations in plush form, you would have to do it simular to muppet/build-a-bear workshop, offer extremely limited choices, or have literally thousands of these things on stock. I would argue the latter is not feasible. ;)

In terms of the muppet lab, I'm still working on specifics but I had a few thoughts. There could be and interactive video with the swedish chef, in which you are projected next to him, helping him cook something, and he reacts based on how good you do. There could also be a section with the "band" that could incorporate light, color, and sounds/music. Gonzo could be in on a section regarding illusions, and fozzy could do stand-up.

I'm liking the muppet lab (still), and I see what you mean with the "make a friend". Yeah, actually, doing it like Build-a-bear wouldn't be too bad. All we'd have to do is also add clothes for the friends like Build-a-bear, which would allow for more personalization.

I'm thinking of what to do between the roller coaster and the dark ride. I'll check in later!

I do not mean to crash the party, but there is a "Create-Your-Own-Muppet" station at FAO Schwarz in New York City.

^ This isn't a "create a muppet" place, it is a "create an imaginary friend" place. The Muppet lab is entirely different and on the other side of the pavilion

When I think about it, I think that we could get rid of the roller coaster in JII (no offense), and put a similar ride in the earth section- a giant volcano. We could have a great story there, like you are trying to explore the inner parts of a volcano, and in order to do so, you need to ride a special snake-like vehicle (the train) that has Plexiglas windshield that closes over you when you strap in. Opinions?
