Welcome back my friends to the construction that never ends.....

So I was perusing the parks in Google Earth today looking over the various projects across WDW. It's mostly infrastructure right now, but it got me wondering. Has there ever been a period since MK opened that there hasn't been some form of building/demolition/remodeling on property? I'm talking substantial construction here, not just minor repairs. Perhaps in the pre-EPCOT days?

Great, now I have that song stuck in my head.
Not every attraction was open in MK on opening day so won’t be surprised if there are more than about 18-24 months without something major

...And now ELP is playing in my head. Thanks.

Gotta see the show, it's a dynamo ;)

What a blast from the past. The very first CD I ever bought was E,L&P. I had already converted from 8-track to vinyl to cassette, when I then got a CD player and had to hear the synthesizer solo on "Lucky Man," on CD. I shook the walls cranking that up.

It would depend on your definition of "period of time" and "substantial construction", but if I am going to use my definitions, the answer would be no.

The link below will give you a timeline from 1961 to 2010 and does not even include much if anything in the way of infrastructure construction.

My hubby is a big ELP fan. Carl Palmer played a concert in our area a couple years ago and he went (on his own). Sorry to say Lucky Man isn't one of my faves. The song that's referenced in this thread (don't even know the title) and Fanfare for the Common Man are two that I do like :)

"Karn Evil 9" and I have no idea what that means other than a play on the word carnival. Not sure about the 9.

Yup, Karn Evil 9, First Impression. Second Impression was an instrumental by Emerson. Third Impression was about a war between computers and humans, apparently inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Well, it wasn't my intention to generate more ELP nostalgia than actual answers, but what the heck.

I think the whole construction/demo/remodeling thing is just a fact of life and is necessary to keep the place somewhat fresh. We have been going since 1983, and during that time frame, I don't remember there not being work going on. On the other side, if there was not growth, new things and changes taking place during that time frame, would we still be going after all these years? I don't think so, or maybe not as often. New resorts, new rides, even new parks, new infrastructure, and a much bigger Disney Springs can't happen without construction.

I realize it's not a cut and dry question and I wasn't implying building is a negative. Expansion is the name of the game, especially with Universal up the road, and the property has a ways to go before it's built out. I was just wondering if there was a period(s) where there just weren't any projects in the works.

Theres has always been something being built, thats what makes Disney so worthwhile coming back to. Theres always a new experience introduced. Its ever changing and evolving. The biggest construction periods were when the additional parks came along. The frustrating thing is the long drawn out waits between planning, announcing, starting and completing projects.
