Week of New Years 2017

I've been dreaming of planning our first Disney trip (as adults) since I was pregnant with my youngest, 4 years ago, and
now it's finally upon us! Perhaps against our better judgment, we're headed to WDW Jan 2-7. I understand it could be treacherously busy, but as we're traveling from fairly far away with some family that has school-aged kids, our only options were spring break or the holidays.

So my first question is, looking at how the calendar falls this year, are we doomed for insane crowds? I've read all the crowd calendar blogs, most of which say yes - we are in for it - but a couple say that it is likely to wind down after New Years Day. But then there's the marathon the following weekend, so I don't know if we can expect much of a reprieve.

We of course have made our ADRs and FP+ reservations, but if anyone had tips on how to have a good trip amidst the super busy season, I'd appreciate the expertise. I am trying to set expectations with our group as I think mindset could help a lot. We are staying at Bay Lake Tower and will first hit the parks on the evening of Jan 2. We have an almost 4 year old, baby, and my sister has 4 older kids who are Disney pros at this point.

Thank you!
