The WDW Maintenance (Craft Maintenance Council) contract is set to expire on Sept 29, 2012. There are ongoing negotiations right now, but TDO is claiming poverty saying they are broke and can’t afford any raises or benefits right now.

I can't think of anything else they could do to ravage this depleted department. Cut personel, add extra assignments, cut back on annual refrubs to keep attractions fresher...

But no annual incriment is just a slap in the face, we have all seen the P&R annual reports, crying poverty is absurd.

Is there any Union involvement with it?

Is there a specific quote where the company is claiming poverty or that they can't afford raises right now?

I'm the last person to defend TDO, but to make an accusation like that, I hope there are at least facts to back it up. If there are, then that is indeed pretty pathetic.

I'dlike to know if there is anything out there about these negotiations as well.....

As somebody who is in a union who just went through contract negotiations, this is standard lipservice from the company. the company we negotiated with stated we are broke yet a foil request showed theyt haved 1 million plus in the bank in an untapped fund . they were far from broke.

I suppose when you consider the millions they are spending on all the work around property (including the FLE) it's an easy thing for TDO to say they are broke (neverminding the general profits of Disney as a whole).

Wait... You mean they HAVE a maintenance department?! :-O
Maybe even TDO feels the way you do and that's the real reason they don't want to invest in the department. ;)

And to add to that, some of us even have all our teeth. I have started to dress more like the Country Bears. Big Al is my role model! :p

By no means was I generalizing about people in the south. I myself live in the deep south, in what is probably one of the might high-tech and educated cities in all of the US. That being said, I have seen firsthand how employees here in the south have little to no rights compared to how the states treat the employers.

This angers me on so many levels. It doesn't help that DH and I just encountered something along these lines personally. Do they not get/not care that there are families that depend on them. While it stinks that this could probably negatively effect the parks, it is worse that this will effect many families. Not good, Disney!!
