WDW in August

We have been extremely fortunate enough to have been able to go the World every year since 2003, and are planning our next trip now. All of our trips have been in Oct except for one in Nov. We absolutely love going then with F@W, and ETTB concerts. The downside is taking DS out of school for a week to go. Well this year, because I moved all the way up to 106 in seniority as a mailman in my office. Twelve years to get there. I was able to get the last week of August off for vacation. I'm kind of a creature of habit, afraid of change, but excited none the less. So how is Disney in August? Guessing kinda warm?

Warm, but the crowds will be better around the last week, but they also shrink the hours of the parks and EM hours.

I go every year for two weeks in August. No special events like F&W, though in 2010 we caught the shutdown party with Celebration V...but it's still very nice.

What do you want to know?

I have been in August, towards the end of the month and It does get warm, and you can expect a rain burst almost daily. The bright side is the rain is usually quick! I went in The beginning of November last year. The crowds were just as bad, if not worse than August. We are from New Jersey and went during the teacher convention, which I believe is unofficially called Jersey Week. I liked August, just remember to hydrate and pace yourself. I do recall a few pool breaks on days with magic hours, making the days a lot more tolerable (heat wise). I really do remember the crowds being not as bad in August as they were in November. I am going in July this year for the first time, and I am afraid the heat may be worse. Either way it is Disney, so should be a blast!

August is Hot Hot Hot and Humid Humid Humid Humid....but have a wonderful trip. The pools and water rides are a refreshing break from the heat. And I agree with @mcst1010 ...stay hydrated and pace yourself. Invest in a good water bottle with filter and try Frogg Toggs.....water activated cooling towels. You can find them on Amazon. I also carry hand held fan...small and keeps the air moving around your face. Take a pool break during the hottest part of the day and return to the park at night to enjoy EMH....a perk of the hot months. I have gone in August many times and these tips help. Have aMagical Trip! :cat:

Late August tends to be pretty good crowd wise. The tour groups are almost completely gone and most schools are back in session. The downside is will be about 7 bizzilion degrees at 6:00 AM in the shade.

Plan for the heat and an afternoon thunderstorms and you will be fine.

Ahhh it ain't that hot, just take precautions and you will be fine. Millions of people live in that area of Florida, not like they evac during Aug each year due to heat! :)

Unless your one of those Yankees use to those wimpy summers up north, then your pretty much screwed!!! :)

I am a Yankee, not a Yankee fan, but a Yankee. Our Summers might be a bit wimpy, but Winter, not on the wimpy side. I dream of 90s in the snow and cold.

So, at Day 20, the weather in Cincy is supposed to be in the mid-sixties today and tomorrow with a chance of, dare I say it, SNOW on Wednesday. Is Orlando Calling?
We are hitting the 50s in Northeast Pa. tomorrow. Then rapid change on Wednesday with a couple of inches of snow. Twenty on Thursday, single digits at night. Calgon take me away.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I knew it was going to be warm, but didn't realize all the rain. Not a lot of late hours, I guess that is because of a lesser crowd though. Which is a very good thing.

I was there during Jersey week last year. The crowds on Saturday, especially Epcot, were too much to handle. For me at least.

It was rather brutal. I was in magic kingdom right before fireworks and was getting shoved along. I am not a small person by any means, I am over 6'2" and 275 pounds. I got separated from my family, they retreated to the bakery, and I was stuck in the flow of people . As I was getting shoved along ,a woman and child fell in front of me and I had to plant my foot down and shove the crowd back and holler for everyone to stop. Poor disney employee came over hollering at me, obviously overwhelmed, and saw why I did what I did. Everyone was ok, but people get a little nutty at that hour I guess. I doubt I will ever go during jersey week again. On the plus side, that is the only bad crowd experience I have ever had in Disney. I prefer the summer. I am with tinkerbell397 on the pool breaks. They really make the day so much more fun. Like hitting a reset button.

We went in August back in 2011 (as well as a number of times in the early 90s). I personally didn't think the heat and humidity were that bad...of course, I've lived in FL and TX over the last 20+ years. We started our 2011 trip on August 14th and were shocked at how light the crowds were...especially considering Touring Plans was calling for heavy crowds. I think this August trip has been my fave trip to date with our kids. We'd hit the parks right at opening, get in a ton before the crowds built by late morning/early afternoon...rested in the room/hit the pool during the peak crowd/heat hours...and then enjoyed the late summer hours for the respective parks. I know a PP said they cut hours, but we experienced the opposite. I think the avg non-EMH night in MK was 1am.

We just went last August after going 5 years straight during Jersey Week. My experience is that the crowds are much worse, the afternoons and early evenings were brutal heat-wise and there were rude people everywhere.

But every trip is different and every summer the weather patterns are different. You just take what you get, have a few adult beverages, make sure you have a poncho handy and enjoy your vacation! As for us, we are back to going during Jersey Week, and it helps that we live in Jersey. ;)

Our past 3 trips have been late August and we are doing that again this year. I hate telling people about the secret that is the last week of August cuz it could effect my trip  Our kids don't go back to school in Mass. until after labor day so it's great for us.

If you can take the heat it's actually a great week. It's usually low to mid 90's every day and expect a 20-30 mns thunder storm in the afternoon. The crowds are 100% manageable which is why we go then. In 2012 we only NEEDED FP's for 1-2 attractions at each park. Most wait times were under 30 mns besides the E-ticket attractions which were more like 45-60
