We are going the WDW during Christmas time. For people who have went to WDW during this time can you please tell me what the weather is like? Are you able to go swimming/water parks? Are any of the rides closed during this season? Please inform me.
Inquiring minds want to know:xmas:

You can check my trip report 12/26/02-12/31/02 if you'd like. This year we wore jackets/sweatshirts every day. My son was in shorts the whole time but we're from Chicago so to him anything warmer than 50 is shorts weather. Regarding Water Parks, one will be open. Maintenance is usually done on the water parks during the winter but they don't close both of them. While we were there, Blizzard Beach was open for 3 of the days and on the 4th day, it closed and Typhoon Lagoon was reopened. This info will be posted on the www.disney.com website when it gets closer to your travel date as will all the park hours information. Christmas is very magical, this was my first visit and I fell in love with WDW all over again.

Hello!
When we went in december of 2000, we started the week by wearing shorts and tank-tops and swimming in the pool, and ended the week by wearing tossel caps and gloves and buying sweatshirts.

So you never know what the weather will be like. COP was open but it was the week before Christmas, other than that you will have to wait til it is closer to your trip to see what is being refurbished. I think Typhoon Lagoon is refurbished during that time, and if River Country opened back up it always closes in the winter, but blizzard beach is open.

Have a wonderful time, I'm planning on going in december again too, It is wonderful! :)

Christmas is one of our favorite times at WDW - We usually go before Christmas as we are from Minnesota and do love the snow at Christmas - but Disney is awsome at Christmas - the decorations make up for the sometimes not so warm weather. Our favorite place to stay is Wilderness Lodge for Christmas - it just seems more like a North Christmas time for us. Also if it is cool outside, the lodge lobby is great for the little ones to play.

Two years ago I took along a number of sweaters and long pants to wear during the evenings - couldn't even wear my new Christmas (cotton) sweater during the evenings - it was too warm.
This last year I needed even warmer items than what I took and had to buy a couple of sweatshirts and jackets while there. I recommend that you take along clothes to layer and then you should be able to meet any and all weather challanges. Be sure to take along light weight gloves for all - it is hard to find nice gloves that fit at DISNEY.

The one dissapointment I always have during the Christmas time is that just like Minnesota the daylight hours are very much shorter and it just doesn't seem as though you get as much warm time - but the nighttime entertainment is awsome.

Must do:
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
Candlelight Ceremony at EPCOT
Tree Lightings at both MK and EPCOT
Osborn Lights at MGM
Tour all the resorts to see the holiday decorations.

This year I found out that they flim the Christmas Parade usually on the first or second weekend after Thanksgiving. This year we are going to try to be there during that time.

hoping to go for Christmas, too!!! Haven't been in December, but in Jan and Feb. Weather is crazy...you can start off with shorts and be begging for a coat come late afternoon. It can get cold (27 one night). If you bring layers you will be alright. Have heard soo much about Christmas at Disney that the whole gang (neices, nephews and adults) is starting to plan. See you there!!!

The weather in December can be extremely tempermental. I have been 3 times around Christmas:

Dec. 19-25, 2000: Very chilly - Jeans and sweatshirts (hovered 50 degrees during the day, 30 degrees at night). Except for the last day with was Dec. 25 and it was 75 degrees. Definitely not warm enough to swim or do any water park.

Jan. 5-12, 2002: Around 60 during the day and 40-50s at night. Very comfortable weather. But still not warm enough to swim.

Dec 5-9, 2002: Varied significantly. It was very rainy. The days were anywhere from 50s to 70s and then at night it was cool 30s to 50s. It was warm but I don't think 70 degrees is warm enough to go swimming. It's so darn cold when you get out and you still have to go to your room.

Pack with layers that way you are ready for any temperature - day or night.

Our first trip to WDW during the Christmas season was this past December. The weather was unseasonably COLD!!! We wore layers, but never took any of them off! Needless to say, we didn't set foot on any of the water rides. I wished we'd brought our winter coats.

The parks were beautifully decorated, and we loved the entertainment at EPCOT! Since we were only there for a one-day visit, we didn't get to MGM to see the lights, but everyone else raved about them. Go, and have a great time! (Just pack the long undies... )

I was there from 12/15-12/19/02. Sun night at MVMCP was V-E-R-Y chilly! Needed hats and gloves to be comfortable. Monday (12/16) was cool and cold again that night. Started to warm up a little on Tuesday-with really warm temps on Thursday 12/19. Swimming was out of the question, but we had lots of fun w/o it.:)

And speaking of the Candlelight Processional, let me tell you that I *HIGHLY* recommend the Processional Dinner package. It runs about $25-35 or so per adult (depending on which restaurant you choose, and I don't know the kid prices) but this year we saved that much on the merchandise discount alone. It was like getting a free meal for us since we did most of our Christmas shopping in Epcot & that 15% off really added up.

And as for the weather....all you can do is bring layers. You really never know how it's going to be. I'm very hot-natured so I rarely even bring a jacket, but I've been miserable a time or two because of it. Once the sun goes down it can get chilly quickly.

Keep in mind that when the Sun goes down the Vampires come out:lol: Woops, wrong thread:o

But two things happen when the Sun goes down (which is around 6ish that time of year). First the temp can drop 10-30 degrees and secondly you won't have the feel of the warm Sun rays on you.

You may feel dumb carrying a coat, jacket or jacket and sweatshirt around during the day time when it is 70 but at night when it is 45 you will be glad you have them.

I have been to WDW at Christmas/NYE 18 or the last 19 years. I have seen 85 degrees and I have seen 25.

Also 55 can feel nice when you are walking around and going to shows or on rides but it sure feels different when you stand in one place for an hour waiting for and watching a parade or Fantasmic.

Crowds? Wow!! Wall to Wall. I have said every year I will never go back at that time again and every year but one I have gone back:) :D

Enjoy, you will love it.:animwink:
