Continually I read posts from people, whom generally appear to not have any children of their own, who say that very young children are unlikely to get abnything out of Walt Disney World.
I think that is a theory that really needs to be quashed.
We took our 13 month old daughter for her first Disney trip in July and she VERY much enjoyed it and got a tons out of it. She was just walking, so was able to run up to the characters and great with them.
Our party consisted of myself, my wife, our daughter and our 6 year old son, himself a Disney vetran as this was his 4th trip!
On the flight she was great, no problems at all. In fact she slept for a good proportion of the flight due to some careful planning and a very early start. It did take her slighlty longer to adjust to the 5 hour time shift, about 4 days for her.
The only other problem we had with her was finding a drink that would keep her well hydrated and she would enjoy. On the 3rd day we discovered that 50/50 mix of minute made apple juice and ice cubes was great. We simply put this in her bottle and let the ice melt, she had a tasty cool drink and she drank this pretty much the whole trip. We had no problems with ice as all of the drinks carts and shops were happy to give us ice for her.
As far as characters go, well the attached picture was the one that said it all for me. And of course, being just a year old, she got outstanding attention from them all.
Dining was never an issue and no one even blink if she was a little messy.
And now, having been back a few months you would wonder if she has any memory of it, well she will sit and watch the holiday videos and look at the pictures and she loves them.
So if anyone tells you that your child won't get anything out of a trip to Walt Disney World at a young age, ignore them! Disney works for all ages, even the very young. True the might not remember it all when they're older, but they will definitely gain from the experience.
We just can't wait to take her and her brother back next year!
