Wow! These are awesome blasts from the past.

A room in Contemporary Garden Wing or Polynesian for $45.00 bucks a night? It seems almost unbelievable. I can rarely stop by the grocery store for 'a few things' and make it out of there for under $45.00!

Out of curiosity I checked out the average income for 1977.

$15,000 dollars.

I also see the mention of traveler's checks, forgot about those.(I assume they have gone the way of cassettes and payphones.) And I love the way to contact Disney by writing to the PO Box. I don't know how we dealt with the waiting back then--writing letters, waiting for responses?

Thanks for sharing!

Not that I was there back then, but that sure was a different time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that predates Epcot, so you only had one park to visit.

The prices of everything is such now, that I'm getting priced out of visiting Disney, but it looks like that wasn't always the case.

At that time there was only MK. EPCOT was only a dream then.

I will post pictures of the Walt Disney World News as there was no internet this was given to guests with all the activities and shows and on site entertainment listed performers loke Guy Lombardo, George Kirby . You would not beleive the price of food- Example The Terrace Buffeteria In the Contemporary served Breakfast, lunch or dinner prices were $1.10-$3.95 - Elegant Dining The Gulf Coast Room in the Contemporary Jackets required $7.95- $12.50 Can't find a burger now for that price. Wish I had a time machine to go back to those days.
I know what you mean with todays cost, Our last visit will probably be in 2022 for the 50th anniversary of WDW with the granddaughters and grandson. Who knows what the cost will be then

As I posted earlier they gave us a 8 page news paper on what was going on (all before internet) I copied some of it The dining section, the frontpage, section on Tropical Treasure Island (pre Discovery Island), Contemporary beach activities. Interesting to see how things have changed in ugh! 40 years. Amazing you could swim in the lake (pre alligators) If I remember correctly we stayed 3 nights at the Contemporary and spent less than $400 Total lodging, food, park

These are great! Thanks for posting. I have never heard of Treasure Island before, I assume it morphed into Discovery Island.

I also noted the warning on the restaurant listings stating: 'It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to consume alcohol.' A drinking age of 18! o_O Been a while since we have seen that

Although I didn't visit WDW until 1985, there were still some familiar things I noticed in those news clippings you shared. The one that really popped out was the Contemporary Racquet Club ad. Back then, I was in awe of the Contemporary. I thought it was such an upscale resort, and part of the reason was that they had their own Racquet Club. (I know that the tennis courts managed to last there for quite a few years after that, and was dismayed when they finally removed them from the property.)

Thanks for that little trip down memory lane. :)
