WDI Update 3-15-04

Welcome curious friends, to my new way of updating you.

The WDI Update.

It consists of updates from my good friend Jon, an Imagineer working in Walt Disney World right now.

These updates will be done on a regular basis, and I also urge you to check Jon's page at http://www.magicalears.com/destinations/WDW/ for an update status board on WDI Projects.

Jon has proven to me that he is an Imagineer. So, you're just going to have to take my word for it that he is an Imagineer.

So, without further adoo, here's the WDI Update:

Magic Kingdom

Well, it seems that Harry Potter is still in planning, and is looking a the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon as the most possible place to put the attraction. There is also talk of building one in Disneyland as well, or instead of the one planned for WDW. Jon also added that I was mistaken, that Disney does NOT have the rights to Harry Potter Attractions. But, he also added that the project is very real none the less, and the company is in talks right now to aquire the theme park rights from Time Warner. He said this project really does look like it will happen, but not as soon as we would have thought.

The Tomorrowland Stage is subject to demolition in the near future. There are quite a few pending plans for Tomorrowland, but he can't say what they are yet.

Stitch's Great Escape is complete. The test & adjust phase is now underway, though the exits and line cue are still not complete. The exterior is not complete either. The "Welcome to Tomorrowland" sign has been removed for the addition of the GF to the sign.

Epcot

Soarin' is doing well, with construction on schedule.

Time Racers is being built in place of Global Neighborhood. Time Racers is a virtual ride simulator post-attraction, and is by no means an "E-Ticket."

Dreamchasers is being rehabbed... Jon's not involved with this project at all, but I asked him to find out about it. We should know soon. He said it was likely that they were most likely ripping it out for something new.

Wonders of Life is... well, sitting there, but it is on the Death bed, much like Horizons was in the mid-late 90's. :(

The Living Seas Finding Nemo overlay is coming along nicely. He wouldn't say when it would be finished, but there are plans to remove the Sea Cabs & re-open the tunnel as a walk through with Nemo interactive kiosks & signs as you walk through.

Disney-MGM Studios

The Indiana Jones Adventure is still in planning. It continues to look like a go. The project is healthy at this point. Expect the Indy Stunt Show to close just after opening of the Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show.

No new news on any Muppet based attractions or Roger Rabbit's Hollywood.

Disney's Animal Kingdom

Expedition: EVEREST track construction is not moving as quickly as expected. This may totally wipe out any chance of a Dec. 2005 opening. Though, the latest it could open is March 2006. The bridge and pathway open this week.

Well, that's all for this time!

Have a good one! :animwink:

Poor Wonders Of LIfe. It seems that Buzzy, General Knowledge and the other characters there will end up going to Eisner's Character Prison and join our poor unfortunate friends including all the Tapestry Puppets, Dreamfinder, the Sage Of Time, the Dreamseekers, Mr. Toad, the cast of Horizons, Captain Nemo, SIR, that Alien guy, the cast of World Of Motion, and SMRT-1.

How the hell quickly did they want it? We have been shocked at the speed that the track has been moving. And I'm talking about those of us that also witnessed the track going up for RnR.

Come on, give us the update we really want. ;) Who is going to be the guests for Star Wars

The supports are already up, and some of the track is also.

And why close Indy when they just did a huge 6-month rehab a year ago?

---DAKPluto remembers the huge show overhaul at Legend a year before close---

Okay, so they would do that.:D

I personally think that the Figment in JIIWF has just gotten bitter and disobediant ever since Dreamfinder was imprisoned. He takes it out on Channing because the Institute barely fits the name of Imagination. Oh yes and I remembered what Leonardo Columbus (Leader of the Dreamseekers)said before being locked up. "You can't imprison the magic and dreams like this!"

Ohhh, that was a fun report to read b/c it made me smile.

The ideas sound good, really good.

Time Racers is like a DreamChasers perhaps?? Or to a bigger scale?

I'm most stoked about the Indy Adv. That's a great idea and should make a really nice addition to the attraction line up at the park!

They'd better not put the Harry Potter ride at Disneyland instead of WDW!! :fork: I'm sick of them getting all the rides first. We're better than they are!!!

OK, I'm done with my kindergarten rant for the day. :brick:

Well, my guess is that Jon might not be an imagineer for much longer. Does he know he's violated a boatload of NDIs by telling you this stuff and then knowing it was being put on the net?

Why the hell would you put your friend's job at risk like this?

Disney would NEVER start planning a ride based on a movie they have no rights to. Its a waste of money and time to do so. Especially since other parks already have rides based on this franchise. In fact, it would be ILLEGAL for them to do so. Since its them toying with someone elses property..technically.

Kinda funny aint it how the people who keep disprooving your info are actually current/former disney employees. (ya know..the ones with more credible track records)

Actually, they do it all the time. And it isn't illegal. As long as they don't create it, sell it, or distribute it to the public in any means, they can make all the plans and ideas they want.

They tend to start the early planning in the hopes that they land something. It allows them to get things open quicker. And, sometimes, if they don't get the rights, they just alter the plans for something else.

All pre-planning such as what he is indicating would be kept under COMPLETE secrecy, and only a select few (id say at most 5 people) would even know it existed in the first place (to avoid the lawsuits).

Another little tidbit, anyone else think it would be near impossible (croud wise) to put an "e-ticket" in fantasyland?

I'm pretty sure I've asked this before, but what is Dreamchasers, where is it, and why don't I remember it? It sounds so familiar, yet I can't picture it.

I highly doubt the Austrailia rumor. Mr. Rhode mentioned that it would be too challenging as most Austrailian creatures are nocturnal.

Nice update. Ask him about what's going on between the Living Seas and The Land.

Good point....but playing devil's advocate, what if they built another land altogether?

I think Adventureland needs the E-Ticket, infact I think they should replace the Jungle Cruise with a couple of rides one being MK's new e-ticket....a jungle cruise with live animals can be put in AK...and thus fulfilling one of Walt's dreams when they thought up Jungle Cruise in the first place....just some thoughts......
