Waterproof/Underwater Cameras?

I've always wanted to get photos of my kids at the waterparks, but I don't ever bring valuables with me to waterparks because we just leave our bags on a chair unattended, so no way will I bring my bag with $2,000 worth of photography equipment to Blizzard Beach.

So I guess my only option if I wanted pics would be to buy a disposable waterproof camera. I am just wondering if this would be worth my while. It's been years since I've used a non-SLR camera. Will I be able to get any sort of decent photos from a disposable? If they aren't going to come out any good I won't waste my money on the camera. Does anyone have any photos taken with one?

I'm pretty sure they sell these cameras at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, right?

A disposable camera will never be as good as a $2000 SLR, but it will probably be good enough for this project. They are not dreadful, but you will of course notice the difference. But for the small price tag (buy it before you get to Disney) it's worth it for a try.

a disposable is the only real option .. ok you buy an underwater housing for a digital point and shooter .. or buy a underwater P&S (Sony got some I think) but the price of those housings go up to 65% of the camera price.

I would go for a disposable

I would go disposable. But, like all disposable cameras, don't expect $2000 quality. But, it's a lot of fun to be able to take pics underwater with it, I used to get one all the time when I went to Typhoon.

Are you proposing to enter the water with the camera or just stand at the edge ?
A disposable camera will get pretty good results if the light is OK and you don't want to purchase a waterproof camera housing

I got a two pack of disposable Kodak cameras at Target last year about this time for about 6 or 7 bucks each...they might have even been on clearance. I used them on both my honeymoon and at WDW waterparks, and they worked quite well. I would rather have some ok pictures of us having a blast than none at all! They work great for kids too, they come with a rubberband to hook around the camera, then around a wrist or to hang off of a bag.

I was hoping to keep it in the range of $10-$15.

I'm not really concerned about the waterproofness as much as I am about the fact that it will be sitting unattended with our towels while we go swim and slide. I would like it to be waterproof though so I could take it on the lazy river, etc. But I don't want to spent $15 for a camera and then $5 to develop the film if the pictures will come out horribly.

Justin, why don't you buy that case to add to your accessory collection?

A housing will run you huge. Aquatech out of austrailia sells them for DSLRs... and you dont wanna know the price, out of MY range.

B&H has a bunch in the P&S range of waterproof cameras.
