Water Park Rules and tips

I recently went to a local water park in NJ and they made us take off and hold our water shoes in our hands as we went down water slides or tube rides in the water park. Is there such a rule in Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon?
Are there any other rules/tips I should know about before planning my trip to these water parks?
Do I need to bring my own towel or are towels provided etc...

You do have to remove shoes on some of the slides.

Probably to stop any buckles on the shoes scratching the surfaces and causing damage
