A flopped Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and a crashed Disney Skyliner within its first week. Sounds like 2019 has been Disney's worst year in a while. Any input?

Note: I don't think the argument of "they're all waiting for Rise of the Resistance" works. The vast majority of guests probably have no clue a second ride even exists. Casual guests probably don't even know what one ride they do have. They just know "Star wars land." So no, I highly doubt that Star Wars land will suddenly be successful when Rise of the Resistance opens.

What are you using as a metric?? Profit, number of guest or ride quality??
I thought I read back in August that parks Had a 7% growth in revenue and 5% growth in operating income from 2018. I really can't answers as I don't follow year to year.
People are saying the parks are still packed.
What's your basis for saying it's the worst year they've had??

Well you raise a good point regarding metrics. Profits grew but recall the budget cuts that took place. I think I'm going off intuition with bad press coverage. I didn't go to the parks today but I checked the app and Magic Kingdom looks packed but yesterday at Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, it felt rather empty. Smuggler's Run had a 25 minute wait when I went on it and Slinky was at 35. But two days of attendance isn't measurement. If I recall from the report, Disneyland Paris was what was propping the parks report up from being a disaster. It mentioned attendance being down at Disneyland and Disney World for the summer.

The last 20 years have been somewhat poor from a fan's perspective. A lot of negligence has hurt what I think Disney could/should be today.

You're seeing some of the problems with not investing in things like reasonable transportation (monorails) and delays in park investment have caused EPCOT and DHS to basically be shells of parks while we wait.

From a business perspective, Disney is currently doing very, very well at the parks...which has contributed to what I feel is a passive Parks strategy that may hurt them longer term.

The good part is, it's never too late because they are such a strong brand and have so much going for them even still. They've also invested a lot in the parks (for better or worse from a content perspective) recently, which helps.

I prefer a less IP, more constant investment strategy versus the all IP, huge investment in clumps strategy we're seeing today.

That said, I'm sad EPCOT has lost its original theme and message and there should be more attractions overall.

Great questions, along with, "How do you propose people travel forward and backward in time to gather the insights actually needed to comment on how good or bad 2019 was (for anything)?"

Sure, SW isnt appearing to be the massive success expected ( with more to come, it may still surprise) and the minor gondola crash ( which wasnt on the level of the monorail crash) cant be the deciding factors on 2019 being the worst year. Year long Disney has had a good year overall with both positives and negatives but still not what I would call a disastrous one. Not a best or worst.

I think the expectations were so high for SW that because it’s not pulling in the long lines and crowds that people see it as a failure, that’s not the case. Fact is the new Star Wars movies suck and Disney was expecting SW at Wdw and DL to be received like HP at universal. Call me crazy but idc how cool something is there is nothing enjoyable about spending hundreds of dollars only to wait in line 4+ hours for one ride.
