Has the Disney Company really done what the set out to do? I’m looking a quotes form "the man himself" and it suddenly stuck me. See what you think.

"We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun- together"

"Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."

Has this happened or has it all just become dollars and cents.

It's very late, and I'm tired, but I thought this was a great question (even if there won't be any one RIGHT answer), so please excuse any incoherence (or misspellings... )...

When we train in Guest Relations, as we're doing the whole "Walt's EPCOT" discussion, we ask the trainees to look at WDW, the whole resort, as EPCOT, not jus the park. (If anyone can come up with THAT picture of EPCOT, as Walt showed "us" on tv, that would help here.) If you're picturing Walt's EPCOT, the Magic Kingdom is where the theme park should have been, Epcot (the Park) is where the buisness district would have been (the WS, with it;s shops and restaurants, as well as the technology in FW), Downtown Disney is where the Welcome Center wold have gone, etc...throw in Celebration, where the people LIVE, and you're as close to EPCOT as Walt may/would have acheived had he lived...although it may not have taken him quite as long to get around to a Celebration-type part of WDW... Yeah, it's not exact, and you kind of have to cross your eyes and let the map go blurry and all, but it's one way of getting trainees to consider that WDW is more than just a resort, and is closer to Walt's vision than some people believe. Also, it's nice to think that SOME of the execs don't have their heads up the money-loving arses, and really are interested in what Walt would have wanted (Marty Sklar comes to mind, as well as Greg Emmer (love him!) and Lee Cockerell also...). This whole idea of WDW = EPCOT comes from some of those execs, anyway...

Whew...good question...I hope that my answer makes ANY sense....
