Walt Disney's grave pictures.

I post this for the fact that I've dreamed of being able to stand at Walt's grave one day and pay my respects for the memories he's given me. It would be amazing to stand at the foot of the man who build such a wonderful thing. He's like a hero.

There's also an interesting article regarding this grave site from the interview with Michael Eisner and Larry King.

I have to post the actual article instead of linking since you have to register to read it. This is from the LA Times.

Eisner debunks Walt Disney burial myth
March 10, 2004

Of all the grave matters facing Walt Disney chief executive Michael Eisner, he recently raised an unexpected one.

In an appearance on CNN's Larry King Live, where he fielded questions about the mounting criticism of his management, Mr Eisner told how he once sought out Walt Disney's burial site.

"His wishes were that it was unmarked and not available to anybody to ever find out," Mr Eisner said. "But I went up there and I talked my way into them showing me where he's buried."

Asked by King whether he knew why the site wasn't marked, Mr Eisner said Mr Disney, who died in 1966, "wanted his privacy forever", as did his widow, Lillian, who died in 1997.

On the final resting place of the founder of the entertainment empire, Mr Eisner said: "It's a beautiful little spot and nobody could ever find it, and I'm very proud that I talked myself into it."

It might not have been that difficult. Bonnie Quintanilla, a spokeswoman for Forest Lawn Glendale (California), said the cemetery did not as a policy volunteer any information about where people, famous or not, were buried. But Walt Disney's grave, she said, isn't unmarked.

Anyway, it's easy to find on various websites offering detailed maps to celebrity tombs.

At Disney, a spokesman said that Mr Eisner "visited the grave 10 years ago, and at the time there were no markings to the site. He had to be led to it. Unless you were led to it, it would have been difficult to find."

The topic came up on King's show after Mr Eisner was asked by a caller from Canada about the urban legend that Mr Disney's body was frozen, providing a lighthearted respite from the more uncomfortable give-and-take with King about Comcast Corp's unsolicited takeover bid and Disney's restless shareholders.

Mr Eisner had debunked the myth before, and did so again. (According to numerous accounts, including one in his 1998 autobiography Work in Progress, Walt Disney was cremated, with his ashes buried at Forest Lawn.)

Since taking control of the company 20 years ago, Mr Eisner often has emulated the entertainment legend, from hosting a TV show himself to putting his personal stamp on nearly every facet of the company.

Thanks for the pictures and article. I too have always dreamed of standing at Walt's grave to pay my repsects. I'd probably take a picnic or something and just spend a day with him since he passed before my time. One day, I'll find the grave and visit the man who sparked my imagination.

marked

Well it's obvious the grave is marked. Since Eisner said it was unmarked I'm trying to find out when it was marked. I have a hard time believing as long as he's been dead suddenly they marked it, especially if Disney suggested that he wanted it unmarked, or the family wanting it unmarked.

I just don't know why suddenly they would have marked it if it were always unmarked. Just sounds to me like someone building themselves up but then again, what do I know? :p

real

Does anyone else notice the massive pixelation around each name on the plaque? It is most noticable around Lillian Bounds Disney whose name is also unusualy bright looking.

Not sure if those pics are real.

I know what you are saying and see it too, but I think it's real. I think some of that is just from the camera with the sun reflecting off of it since it's brighter than the other names. I think it's real because it's on many websites and the cemetary is listed as well.

It's also odd that on the snopes page wdwfanatic posted, the picture shows an empty space between Walt and Robert with Lillian at the bottom of the list. And in these pics, her name appears in that empty space. It's always possible her name was moved and the pics were taken at different times, but yes, very curious indeed.

That is the texture surface of the plaque. If you look at the website i posted you can see that they have come back and refinished the marker at some point.

Ok, that pic looks legit to me. All those other ones were just to poopy for me. Was it easy to get all the way back there and check out the site?

so many forums

Steve,

You send me PM's telling me to put my thread's in the correct forum and then move this one (the second one today) to another forum. This one really could go under General Discussion. There are 39 forums on here. I'm sorry but I cannot make sure that something so border line like this missed it. I really feel like I'm being picked on here.

It wasn't hard, but if you didn't know where to look beforehand you'd probably never find it. Forest Lawn is GIGANTIC, and Walt is tucked away in a little corner. I had to walk through some trees and bushes that were in front of the wall with the plaque.

How long did it take you to drive to that location and find it?

Not very long at all. Getting to Forest Lawn Glendale was easy since our rental car had a GPS unit in it. Once there, you just follow the signs to the Freedom Mausoleum and then go to the location pointed out by maps that can be found online.

I saw Eisner on LK when he talked about how he'd seen Walt's grave. And it ticked me off. If Walt wanted it to remain private and for people not to see it, I think that should be respected and Eisner shouldn't be so *proud* of getting to see it. I mean, I'd love to see it, to pay my respects to Walt, but I respect his privacy too. But that's just my two cents.
