I have thought about this for years, and now I will post the idea. It would be on property, and it would be a magical airport! It would have the magical express taking you to your resort, and it is complementary for flying with DIA (disney international airline!) what do you guys think? What would you add to it?

I actually had a strong imagineering idea a while back for an airport in Disney world property. I would love to see it come true but I strongly doubt it ever will.

I would want it far enough away from the parks so we wouldn't hear or see the planes....and that would probably put it off property....

I’m sure there is room somewhere closer to the edge of the property. Plus they can ask the FAA to do special landings and taking offs to avoid contact with the magic.

There are already 2 international airports within 45 miles of WDW. And WDW only gets 17 million visitors a year. Considering that a lot of those people drive, I simply don't see this as a viable option.

MK is at the northern-most edge or property. AKL and I-4 and Celebration are along the south. Downtown Disney is at the south eastern edge. AK park is along the west side, with Coronado north of that. I don't see room on the edges of the map - sorry!

Well there is the concern of space, but I like the idea. Let's just say that Disney World had enough room for this. How would the airport look like? What sort of things would make it magical? Would it be designed as a regular airport, or will it be like the parks, with a theme and such? Considering that if the airport would be built, it would serve as the 'gateway' into Walt Disney World.

I would make it blend in and theme it to Walt Disney World. If it is going to be the Walt Disney World airport is should have a Walt Disney World theme to it. I don’t know how I would exactly do this but i’m sure if the imagineers think for once they could do something awesome, LOL! I would probably make it a regular airport but with the Disney feel. Have Mickey’s and various Disney characters, maybe even a meet and greet before heading on your flight. I would also have a dedicated bus area for Disney transportation. Be busses to either your hotel or Disney park if you want. (I know it’s unlikely but a people mover or monorail would be great.) I would also make a dedicated rental car facility away from the airport.
TL;DR: Disney themed airport with Mickeys, Meet and Greets, Have a great flight! ;)

I found a possible location: What are those pod structures to the left of the Magic Kingdom? Put the airport around there with sound proofing and make them take off either towards the bottom of the screen or top. Plus the FAA can add a sound abatement or whatever to make takeoffs and landings illegal from a certain time to a certain time.

Wouldn't some of the areas have a theme that involves flight along with Mickey and friends? Like the upcoming cars spin-off planes, pixie hollow, game central station etc. Plus stores and restaurants.

Having Disney characters walking around would be fun. Just imagine children's reactions getting off the plane and seeing Mickey Mouse. I'd probably theme it to something related, as it is a hub to an entire 'world' of fun and magic. On one hand I was going to think of it like a spaceport, but that's just me. Maybe it can have different themes so each flight arrives in a 'different' spot? Hmm.

What if it was in a circular shape and seperated into four spaces each one reflecting the park themes. in the center Disney World Hotel a high rise tower. And the new monorail terminal to take you to tree new ones.

There was an airport on property from the beginning, the run way is still there just east of the racetrack south of MK. The company decided it would be impractical to use it as Orlando has an airport 30 minutes away.

That's the STOLport, it was never intended for heavy use, but for a few small planes flying in and out. I believe it really stopped being used when the airline or two flying there went bust. It was sort of like the heliport that was at Disneyland, something small for the few who could pay.

This is true but, sorry for not remembering where, I did read somewhere that Walt's initial plan was to build this into a fully functional airport to keep guests completely on property. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

I mentioned that airport in Post #6, though I think it's planning had more to do with just having an airport in the area than trying to keep people on property. I know people at Disney like to pretend their attempts to trap people are keeping with Walt's practices, but in its first decades Walt Disney World had no problem with people staying off property or going to see someplace else, you could even get brochures and sometimes ticked at your Disney hotel.

differently themed terminals would be cool like somebody said. But i don't like planes flying over the parks so yeah
