Disney becomes sponsor of the Orlando Magic

Sep 26, 2010

Most sports fans already know that the Orlando Magic will soon open the doors to their new stadium, The Amway Center. But what they may not know is that Walt Disney World has decided to be a part of this new venture. Disney Parks has signed a multi-year agreement to become a "Champions of the Community" sponsor for the Magic and the Amway Center. This agreement will have several benefits for both organizations, including working together on philanthropic causes to improve the Central Florida area and better the lives of its children.

Walt Disney World will become the "official theme park" of the Orlando Magic and Disney Cruise Line will become the "official cruise line" of the team as well. The stadium's atrium will be called the "Disney Atrium". Co-branded merchandise will be introduced, as well as other marketing strategies marrying the two brands.

Wow, I remeber when they were just building the original center for the Magic back in my Navy days in Orlando. Guess they don't build coliseums (sp) like they used to.

The old building is holding up fine, it was just built during an era when "skyboxes" were popular. The team actually could not make a profit since there were no luxury box seats worthy of demanding high ticket prices from corporations. Now there are. The city also did it to parlay the popularity of Magic basketball into rejuvenating the Church St Station area of downtown.

Imagine how much different things would be for DTD, especially PI if that arena was at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. When a game let out, thousands could go over and have a nice meal/beverage and have a good time. That would have been huge!!!!
