As a first-time cruiser, I have many questions. But first, is it incredibly difficult to book the Walt Disney suite (on any of the ships)? Do you need to be whatever the equivalent is of a diamond member?

To be honest, I've never tried to reserve it, due to it's hefty price tag. I would guess that it gets booked pretty quickly once the itineraries are released, but I honestly don't know. I've never even had a request for booking it, now that I think of it.

The Walt and Roy suites do book rather quickly particularly on the longer cruises. I'm not sure I see the value in them other than the free internet on a long cruise. DCL offers so many wonderful things to do outside of one's cabin, it does seem like an odd place to spend money. That being said, if you have the money and want it, they are beautiful rooms.

Do either of you know the best way to go about it? Should I go the travel agent route?
It's a matter of preference, but since I'm in the travel industry, I will recommend that you at least start with a travel agent. :) This site is sponsored by Kingdom Konsultants and I'm sure they'd be willing to help you. But there are lots of Disney-centric agencies. You may prefer to work with someone who is physically closer to where you live, or that might not matter. Either way, a good travel agent will add value to your vacation by taking a lot of the research off your hands. And you might get an on-board credit out of it.

Thanks so much, Chuck. I will definitely be using a travel agent!

I knew Chuck would be all over this and suggest the travel agent, but he is absolutely correct. If you just want to try your first cruise in the nicest suite they offer and you are not concerned with which cruise, I am sure you could book it. If you have a specific cruise in mind, you might have a difficult time no matter which route you take for booking. An agent is always better, since you do often end up with an onboard credit and no additional up-charge from the agency. It is one of the few times in life you actually win.

I just took a quick peek at a couple of random cruises in 2022 and they are not available, but a good agent would still be your best bet.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!

If anyone does end up booking the Walt suite please do a review with pictures!
Here's a semi-recent photo gallery (at least recent in terms of when cruising was still open!) of the Roy suite

I found availability in December (we don't intend to try this year, just browsing for now). How's the weather then? No sense getting a verandah if it's too chilly.

The weather can be hit or miss during that time. I've had trips where it was sunny and in the 80 while on a couple of other trips it was chilly in the lower to mid 60s. So it's up to luck and cold fronts.
