Cool. And Walden Media, who did such a good job with "Holes," is participating. That will be good, and help keep it on track.

It is ironic that it is announced this week, when "Lord of the Rings," by C.S. Lewis' friend and contemporary, J.R.R. Tolkien, wins a record number of Oscars; while Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" grabs a record $125 million (for a Wednesday opening) and helps stir up interest in Christian films, too. "The Chronicles of Narnia" is very similar in some ways to "The Lord of the Rings," and it is also full of Christian themes and overtones.

Should be a good movie, and do well at the box office. And with Walden media and Shrek's director involved, I am sure that it will be both: a great film and a moneymaker.

For some reason, there was a full page ad in USA Today for this movie. Which, doesn' t hit theaters until 2005? :veryconfu

The full page ad shows just how desperate Eisner has become to try and stay CEO...The company annual report is ridiculous, it is full of impelishments....saying Piglets Big Movie was a huge success and all. I think it made 16 million. There's also the stunt to bring the 75th aniversary Mickey Statues to the shareholder's meeting and now a huge ad to advertise a movie that hasn't been started yet.

Sort of like the ad that ran about Disney being the Most Admired Entertainment Company?

Less than 2 weeks of the announcement of the purchase of The Muppets, the ad features a picture of Kermit?

Anyone scan this? What exactly did it say?

Very odd sounding. I have to agree with everyone: a desperate attempt to keep shareholders happy, saying Michael is going the right direction..... like the wasted money on the other big USA Today ad talking about the Disney "brands," such as Mickey.

I guess "character" doesn't matter any more!

Fingers crossed that they stay faithful to the book and keep it in the same time period and location. There is always that fear of Hollywood suits changing it for “demographic reasons” to present day America. They can also get more modern product placement in that way.

Well, Walden Media was behind "Holes" and it stayed very close to the book, even hiring the author for its screenplay. Of course, C.S. Lewis is no longer with us, but I would still be inclined to believe that Walden will want to stick close to the book. And "Lord of the Rings" has proven that the genre can be done faithfully AND be successful at the box office.

One of my favorite childhood stories! I read the series over and over, and I bought the collector's book for my son last year (though he can't read yet).
