Walking in with an extra person?

My mother has decided to join our vacation in August. I thought going from a party of three to a party of four wouldn't be a big deal. I had to modify all my ADRS and change some times. Overall I was successful except for Ohana. I have a 6:30 ADR for 3 people but cant modify it to 4 people unless I change the time to 9:40. What do I do? Would calling the restaurant help? What would happen if the four of us showed up?

Often, when you're going from an odd number to an even number, it's not that big of a deal. Your party of three would be sitting at a four-top table just like a party of four would. There's still a chance, though, that the podium could turn away the extra person or make you wait. If the restaurant is truly fully booked, they won't allow extra people for fear of violating capacity codes. At a busy restaurant like 'Ohana, I'd keep looking for the right reservation in the hope that someone will cancel. If worse comes to worse, you can just show up and risk it.

You know, if the difference in times wasn't so much I'd probably change it, but in your case I'd definitely risk it. Like @Sweet Melissa said, going from 3 to 4 in theory shouldn't be a huge deal and I really wouldn't expect it to be once you got to the podium.

Since you have until August, keep checking the Rez system and see if a better time opens up.
If it comes right down to it, chances are showing up with an extra person won't be a big deal.
Though there is always the possibility that at the time if your Rez Ohana could be at capacity, in which case your mother wouldn't be able to get in.
Like I said, keep the time you have, but keep checking until your trip in hopes that a slot opens up for you.

I think you can call and they can change it for you. I read this on another forum but haven't done it myself.

I would think going up to 4 wouldn't be a big deal. There are no "3 tops" at 'Ohanas.

Actually there are 3 tops at 'OHanas against the wall facing out the windows..that maybe where you run into problems there are actually quite a few of them. You may want to call an see what you can do or you may end up waiting or being told no.

IDK about walking in with a fourth party, but you could go for it, and I have always been to WDW with he the immediate family, so we've never had an extra party.

I'd call to see if they can help you and if not, keep stalking the system for a better timed 4-top. Things will pop up at 'Ohana, especially closer to your travel dates since it's a CC guar spot. If you're unable to get it...obviously walk up and see if they can accomodate you. I have never tried it before at 'Ohana nor have I tried going from 3 to 4, but I have had success as well as failure going from 6 to 8. Still, there's a big difference going from 6 to 8. Good luck!

This happened to us in November...we had to add 3. Don't go through Disney Dining to make the changes; they couldn't help us. They suggested calling the restaurant the morning of the ADR or just showing up 15 minutes earlier than previously planned, so if your ADR was at 5:00...they suggested being there at 4:50 for the original reservation...so make it 4:35. Kona was able to work this out no problem. Also T-Rex did it with a phone call that morning.

This happened to us once as well, my mother in law "crashed" our vacation. She did not seem to understand when I told her that I had gotten up at 6am 180 days prior to make our lunch reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table. She insisted on going to lunch with us, we had a reservation for 5 and she made number 6. Much to my shock they sat us all and said it really wasn't a problem because we were going to be seated at a 6 top either way. Had she put us at 7 I am sure it would've been a different story.

As many other posters stated, going from an uneven number in your party, to an even number (3 persons to 4, 5 persons to 6) normally isn't a problem, at the podium. We went from 3 to 4 persons at Ohana a few years ago, with no problem, although they did say we would have to wait, which we didn't. It's always worth a try :) good luck!!
