Walking Around the World

I have a trip coming up in early Spring and I'm trying to get in shape beforehand. In past trips, we've used pedometers to mark our progress as we walked around the parks. It's amazing how far you can walk per day!

I'm trying to make my treadmill prep fun, but I've lost all of my data on how far it is between various points around the World.

Does anyone have any of the distances captured for the various parks? Like how far it is around the World Showcase lagoon at EPCOT, or maybe from Main Street through all of the various lands?

I don't know the exact distances.

I think those pedometers over-estimate how far people walk. Fwiw.

It isn't the walking that is so bad, either. A lot of the wear and tear on your feet is the standing in one place, waiting for rides. Another part that makes people more tired is fresh air. There is something about being outside that wears people out.

If you're in reasonably good shape, you should be okay. You might be tired at the end of the day, but you'll get through it. I'd just aim for being in as good a physical shape as possible...which is excellent advice for us all, Disney or no Disney. :)

Thanks, Luv...totally agree on both accounts. The pedometer, if I recall, showed us walking like 9 miles/day! And the standing in one place is the killer.

We're in pretty good shape, but I have an office job and don't get near enough exercise in. Thought it would be fun to plug in the exact distances in the old treadmill and 'imagine' I'm walking around EPCOT, MK, etc. Might motivate me a bit more :)

Thanks for the response!

Eating more or less healthy and walking the parks allowed me to eliminate 8 pounds in 22 days this past February. I made smart choices, kept snacks to just one a day and ate salads as appetizers.

Good luck with your weight loss!

I have a desk job too... with the right shoes, you'll be fine.

Personally, I'd recommend Sketchers Go Walk shoes. They're incredibly lightweight (that matters at the end of the day when you're dragging!) and last forever. I bought this pair in January, took them to WDW in May, and am still wearing them (right now actually) and they still feel great.

I don't trust pedometers. But if I had to guess, I'd say we did about 10 miles a day between the parks and hotel... and my insistence on midnight swimming and 3 AM dole whips. (at Polynesian) :)

Canada to the UK 1/2 a beer (full beer if I listen to Off Kilter)
UK to France 1/2 beer
France to Morocco Full beer (my wife always stops and uses the restroom there so I finish up).
Mon-Japan 1/2 beer
Japan to US a frozen sake
US to Italy a full beer (that little hill kills me)
Italy to Germany- 1/2 a beer
Germany to China a full beer
China to Norway a 1/2 beer
Norway to Mexico 1/2 beer

Hope this helps.

If you go to Google Earth, you can measure distances for yourself. I was curious of the circumference of World Showcase and it appears to be 1.2 miles. (although in the heat, it seems longer). We're thinking of taking a pedometer just to be curious how far we manage to walk - although sometimes I doubt how accurate they really are.

Easily the best measurement ever.

1.2 - 1.5 sounds about right. They have run a 5K through Epcot (3.1 miles) but it does go out of the park.

Awesome information! Thanks all :) Except for you, Mark in KY. I can't condone that type of language ;) War Eagle!

I could also add I measure distances between "cities" by the amount of money my wife spends in them and how long it takes me to count how much I have left.
