How long is the walk from Pop Century to the main building at AoA
We have children and grandchildren staying in a suite at AoA. We (the grandparents) are thinking about joining them for this trip, but the regular rooms at AoA seem to be a long way from the suites and just do not look like something we want to stay in.
My thoughts are to stay at Pop Century 50's or 60's close to the bridge and walk to AoA when we want to meet them.
Wife and I have been to Disney many times usually staying at PO Riverside or Wilderness Lodge, so this is new territory for us.

Very short walk. Not much further than walking to the main POP building from the rooms you stated.

Very doable. I know people do it all the time to take advantage of AoA's better food court! The two were originally designed to be sister resorts, so they're pretty close together. Google Maps tells me that the walk between the two closest buildings is only about 3-5 minutes, but that can obviously vary depending on what building you're actually in. Keep in mind though, if you don't end up in the 50s or 60s section, the walk could be a lot longer than the walk from Little Mermaid rooms (standard rooms) to the suites.

From the back door of main building of Pop to the back door of the main building AoA is almost exactly 1/3 of a mile, accounting for walking around the pools.
The maximum possible distance from opposite corners of the furthest two buildings at the two resorts is 3/4 of a mile, while the shortest potential distance is 1/10.

Sounds like a great idea. You'll have dual pools, food courts, gift shops, and bus depots! As far as rates, you'll come out better because you don't need a suite like your children and grandchildren do.
