Wal-Mart Sucks

As if we all didn't already know that. But here's another story from this morning:

The Wal-Mart down the street from our house is open 24 hours. My wife stopped by on her way to work this morning to buy Wreck It Ralph, which just came out today. The store had no copies out on the sales floor yet, and nobody was working in that department. So, she left, went to Target which opened at 8:00, and big surprise, they had their entire display up and ready to go, along with every other new release for today.

I honestly don't understand how Wal-Mart got so big. Besides the fact that most of their stores are dumps, they carry crappy merchandise, never have enough lanes open, and can't even manage to have the store stocked properly.

We only have a Walmart in our town, so unless you want to drive 30 minutes for groceries you're out of luck. There is one local grocery store, but their prices are so much more expensive when there's no sales. I don't like Walmart either, but I really have no choice.

No Walmarts here in Staten Island. We do have a Target and it is highly trafficed. We often travel to New Jersey to do most of our shopping. There is a Walmart next to the Costco we frequent. We have gone in on occasion but not very impressed.

People with low standards made Walmart as big as it is. I hate it there too.

Sam and Walt were similar in setting goals. Originally Sam built an empire stocking almost all products made in the USA, he had standards much like Walt did. Then with death both their ways of doing business was set aside. Pick up the merchandise, look not only where it is made but the quality too, both corporations have slipped from the expectation of their past leaders.

Both had nice facilities, well maintained and then we have what we have...

Next up, lets see what they do to Apple over the next 5-10 years.

Thank God WDW is not mis-managed to the same degree as Walmart, and I hope and pray it never is.

Ours has none. No lie, it's a Super Wal-Mart with 30 registers, and if you walk in there on a Wednesday after work, you're lucky if 4 of them are open. It's so poorly managed.

This is how ours is, too. There's usually one or two express lines open and then at most three regular lines open. Even on Saturdays and Sundays there's only ever 4 regular lines open. Why even have all of those lanes?

It's pretty bad when you are surprised to encounter a friendly cashier, or a greeter who actually greets people, or products with matching shelf labels (that are accurately priced), shelves that are well-stocked, etc. The kinds of things that should be so standard that you don't even notice them often catch you off-guard.

They are so poorly managed, and seem to be full of employees who don't care much about the quality of their output. Then again, you get what you pay for.

When you go in expecting the worst, it doesn't take much to walk out impressed. Again, low standards.

ours just put in 10 self service check out stations

Reminds me BoG QS, order your own food kiosk, online check in, My Disney Experience, ADR's and online reservation system at Disney, more and more less face time with guests.

This is how ours is, too. There's usually one or two express lines open and then at most three regular lines open. Even on Saturdays and Sundays there's only ever 4 regular lines open. Why even have all of those lanes?

Yeah, I hate when only a few bag checks are open at the parks, one side of PoC or Space, frequently when I go into POR QS venue, not all of their check out lanes are open and lines back up.

The similarities are unnerving. Wonder how many Disney Stockholders also own Walmart stock?

Can't beat a good ol' Target! They've got their crap together there.

They really do. Whenever we go in there, if there are people waiting in lines, they ALWAYS have someone up there calling people down to the register and getting people out quickly. And the store always seems clean and orderly. Wal-Mart looks like a tornado went through it.

In my experience Walmart self checkout lanes are usually closed.
Yea ours are closed all the time. Its amazing that you can have 20 people in line, only 2 lanes open, self checkout is closed, yet everyone is happy as a clam that they are saving 6 cents on an ipod. I try my very hardest to stay as far away from them as I can.

If you read up, you'll see how Wal-Mart got so popular. It was all stuff they do little of these days. Like so many companies, they got a reputation for and made a fortune doing something well, then stopped doing it.

I think it depends on the Wal-Mart. My old one was clean, attractive and a fine place to shop. The one I'm closest to in Florida is not very clean, is ALWAYS very busy (with all sorts of people, including the loud and obnoxious) and I only go there when I must. They're the only one around with Brach's gummies, yellow-capped Downy, the cheapo socks I like...so I go when I need those things only.
