Looks like D23 is doing a nice little event at Disney World on April 18, with a special showing of Sleeping Beauty. Los Angeles gets a lot of these events, with the Disney-owned El Capitan Cinema on Hollywood Boulevard, but it is nice to see them doing one in Florida. It is a D23 event, though, which makes it a little pricier than the LA events (which are open to the public usually), but still nice. A good opportunity to see it on the big screen. And as I remember, Sleeping Beauty was the first animated film to be shot in CinemaScope (or 70-mm, not sure which -- either way a widescreen presentation). So, it might be nice to see it in full on the big screen.

D23 is bringing the magic of Sleeping Beauty to Walt Disney World Resort with a special screening in Downtown Disney!
Join us at AMC Downtown Disney 24 to watch Disney’s animated classic Sleeping Beauty. We’ll begin with a special introduction by Animator and Walt Disney World Creative Designer Lon Smart, who has contributed to numerous films from Walt Disney Animation Studios, from Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King to Lilo & Stitch and The Princess and the Frog. Plus, each guest in attendance will receive a commemorative gift: a journal designed to look like the ornate book that opens the beginning of Princess Aurora’s story.
NOTE: Members may reserve a space for themselves and one (1) guest. There are a limited number of spaces available. D23 Members will be required to provide their membership number when reserving tickets. Tickets may be picked up only with a valid photo ID AND D23 MEMBERSHIP CARD. D23 Members who do not bring their membership card may not be admitted to the event. Ticketed members who do not attend the event forfeit their place as well as all experiences, benefits, and gifts associated with the event. All D23 Special Events are subject to change without notice. Reservations are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Anyone on this board gonna be there? (I will be here in Va., but I thought I would pass it along.)

I'm pretty sure this is a reference to the "Waking Sleeping Beauty" documentary that came out a while back. Given this is a D23 event, I'm thinking they're expecting that the target audience is familiar with this.

Wish they could get Mary Costa down for this. I believe she's still considered a Disney company ambassador, and she's done D23 events in the past. Plus, Ms. Costa lives in TN, much closer to come to Orlando than California. That would get me to fork over the cash to attend.

But nearly as bad as the "Waking up with Woody" Toy Story promotional event.

But nothing close to the cross promotional plan that got scrapped, "Waking up Sleeping Beauty with Woody". For some reason marketing just couldn't get behind that, and Lasseter wasn't a huge fan of allowing Toy Story characters to mingle with the hand drawn crowd.
