Volusia Museum to Create Environmental Learning Center
DAYTONA BEACH (Orlando Business Journal) -- Daytona Beach's Museum of Arts & Sciences has secured funding needed to build a permanent environmental learning center in the 90-acre Tuscawilla Nature Preserve adjacent to the museum's location on Nova Road. The center will use a network of nearly one mile of boardwalk trails and observation platforms that will connect three open-air learning pavilions. Each pavilion will contain educational and interactive exhibits. Exhibit topics include local flora and fauna, environmental protection, wetland degradation, non-native plants and alternative energy sources. The go-ahead for the center came after the museum recently received funding for the $1 million project through major grants from the state and Volusia County's ECHO program. The 12-month project is expected to be completed by fall 2003.
